A Guide to Writing Short Stories
63
As a person whom is has written short stories, off and on, I believe I know a think or two about it. One thing you must do as you cannot be a writer without this; read. Read a book of one of your favorite authors. I am not talking about non fiction but fiction for you people whom all you read are technical stuff. By doing this, you get a general idea of how to write a story. Yes, what you are picked up would consist of a novel, but what you get out of this is an idea of what you need to do to write a story.

Your Next Step
So we now are reading books, the next step is trying to decide on what you want to write about and how long you want the story to be. Remember all stories regardless of being short or long, it needs to have a beginning, middle and end.
The Beginning
This is usually where you want to introduce your characters. Explain who they are and if you can be as descriptive as you can possibly be.
The Middle
Once you have established your characters, then you move onto the middle which is where the good stuff happens. By this point you are either getting close to or on your way to getting to the climax of the story. This is the big chunk of where all of the action is at.
The End
This is where you start winding down the story and closing any loose ends that you may have.
Some Other things to think about
When I write, I have the ideas in my head and its a matter of getting the information out. I visualize what I want out of the story. Plan your story out before you write if you can. Sometimes I will blog about the ideas and sometimes I will just write the story. When I write, I let my fingers do the talkings. As long as I write my story on the computer, I have no problems getting my ideas and letting my fingers have a mind of its own. If you do it the old fashion way with pen and paper, you may not get your ideas out. The key is to visualize what you want. Write out the character bios if it helps much, but remember to have fun.

I liked this. I teach middle school Literature & find students today have a difficult time writing. Would you mind if I ever shared this with my students? Simple yet precise!
