  • HCG Diet Research Studies - Why They Say It Doesn’t Work for Weight Loss

This article written by Dr. Clark shows why studies conducted decades ago stating HCG is ineffective for weight loss are incorrect in their conclusions.  Among the many reasons are deviations from Dr. Simeons’ protocol, statistically insignificant samples, and the results from these studies don’t support the conclusions! Here’s the complete article: HCG Diet Research Studies hcg, hcg diet, [...] - 4 months ago

Is the hCG Diet Dangerous or Miraculous?

Tens of thousands of people have discovered the hCG Weight Loss Diet and have transformed their bodies using this diet protocol developed in the 1950's by Dr. Simeons.

Despite this fact, the detractors will tell you there is no evidence that hCG contributes to weight loss. Some even say it is downright DANGEROUS to take hCG - so who is right??

First, some details about the hCG Diet, what it is, how it works, and where to buy hCG so you can try this diet protocol yourself, should you choose to believe those that say it is nothing short of miraculous:

  • The first report on using hCG for managing obesity was published in 1954 by the late Dr. Simeons. While practicing in India, he observed that the so-called "fat boys," who showed Adiposogenital Dystrophy, improved when they were treated with hCG. He also observed their changing body fat distribution and he felt it needed further research.
  • Dr. Simeons investigated patients showing different degrees of obesity, and concluded hCG may be useful for the treatment of obesity. Many encouraging observations led him to confidently publish the results to his peers.
  • Dr. Simeons moved to Rome, where he expanded his practice to the treatment of obesity.
  • Physicians from all over the world came to Dr. Simeons in Rome, to see first hand the hCG original protocol. Many of them failed to reproduce the results, because they changed his original protocol.
  • Dr. Simeons suggested that hCG, acting on the hypothalamic level, may be correcting the basic hypothalamic disorder, and consequently the metabolism of adipose (fat) tissue.
  • HCG is a hormone produced by pregnant women in levels of 1 million IU's per day. It is the hormone present in the urine of pregnant women that is detected by home pregnancy tests to indicate a positive result.
  • The hCG Diet consists of very low daily doses of hCG in the order of 125-200 IUs daily accompanied by a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD).
  • Studies published showing the lack of efficacy in the hCG weight loss diet used a 'control group' that stuck to a VLCD without the daily injections of hCG. These studies concluded that there was no statistically significant difference in weight loss between the control group and those that also injected hCG daily
  • The hCG Diet as proposed by Dr. Simeons makes the claim that the daily injections of hCG help the dieter overcome hunger pangs and assist in sticking to the VLCD diet, while preventing the typical symptoms of following a VLCD for weight loss.

Of all the studies proving the hCG Diet doesn't work, not one of them stuck to the original diet protocol that Dr. Simeons documented in his manuscript 'Pounds and Inches - A New Approach to Obesity'. The one study that DID stick to the original diet protocol showed a significant increase in fat loss over the control group.

How does hCG facilitate fat loss?

Dr. Simeons claims there are 3 types of body fat:

  1. Structural Fat
  2. Normal Fat
  3. Abnormal Fat

Structural Fat is the adipose tissue that surrounds internal organs, cushions the soles of the feet, etc. It is absolutely critical to one's health and vitality.

Normal Fat is the adipose tissue that is stored as energy reserves for when dietary calories from food are not readily available in the bloodstream. This normal fat is then 'burned' as fuel for the body by your metabolism when energy is needed, but your blood sugar is depleted.

Abnormal Fat is the adipose tissue that develops around the mid-section of men and the hips and thighs of women that never seems to go away, no matter how much diet and exercise one performs.

Now, people will say to one who has developed stores of Abnormal Fat that all it takes is diet and exercise to get rid of this extra 'unattractive' fat, but those that have TRIED to get rid of these fat stores through diet and exercise and have FAILED bear a heavy burden of ridicule, shame, and hopelessness.

For a person with a normal, healthy metabolism, the excess fat stored on the body is able to be metabolized through diet and exercise, but when one's metabolism is out of whack, these Abnormal Fat stores are not able to be accessed by the body and are NEVER metabolized. Hence, diet and exercise, no matter in what volume or intensity, are never able to correct this fundamental system imbalance and the Abnormal Fat never goes away.

On the contrary: If one follows an intense regimen of either diet (restricting caloric intake below what the body weight of the person requires) or exercise (burning more calories than are being consumed for the healthy functioning of a person at that body weight), what happens is:

  • The body burns MUSCLE in an effort to shed active tissue responsible for consuming the needed dietary calories
  • The body burns Structural Fat needed to keep the body healthy

The problem with consuming too few calories by following a very low calorie diet, or burning too many calories through extreme exercise, is that the tissue the body gets rid of is NOT the abnormal fat the person is TRYING TO get rid of.

This is evidenced by the fact that joints start aching, and the soles of the feet start hurting, because the Structural Fat is being metabolized instead of the Abnormal Fat.

HCG, in low doses (far below what a pregnant woman produces), facilitates the metabolism of this Abnormal Fat through a process that, frankly, isn't well understood.

To bring a fetus to term, a pregnant woman must have a constant supply of calories and energy, as well as nutrients, available to the developing fetus. It is believed that hCG allows the metabolism of the pregnant woman to work as efficiently as possible to keep these nutrients available to the fetus as it develops and that WITHOUT HCG, a pregant woman would NEVER be able to bring a baby to term.

Whatever the mechanism is that allows stores of fat in a pregnant woman to be utilized efficiently seems to work for those with Abnormal Fat stores.

However, for the Abnormal Fat to be burned as fuel by the body of one following the hCG Diet Protocol, a Very Low Calorie Diet must be followed.

Otherwise, excess calories being consumed are converted back into fat and no net loss of fat occurs.

The primary concern of people that first learn of the hCG Diet is how can one possibly stick to a 500-600 Calorie Per Day (VLCD) Diet?

Those that have followed Dr. Simeons hCG Weight Loss Diet Protocol have discovered that as the Abnormal Fat is being burned by the body, these calories that enter the bloodstream from the burned fat prevent the dieter from feeling hungry!

There are 3500 calories per pound of fat, and the hCG Diet, when followed correctly (accomanied by a VLCD), will burn between 0.4 and 2 pounds of Abnormal Fat per day!

This means an extra 1400 - 7000 Calories are coursing through the body as Abnormal Fat is being metabolized, in addition to the 500-600 Calories consumed from the very restrictive diet one must follow on the hCG Weight Loss Diet Protocol.

Is it Dangerous?

There has been no evidence that the small doses (125-200 IU) of the hCG hormone taken while on the hCG Weight Loss Diet Protocol is dangerous. Those that make claims there is a danger and refer to studies in an attempt to prove their point cite studies where very large doses of hCG were taken.

Does it Work?

If you have tried to rid your body of excess fat stores through traditional diet and exercise regimens and were unsuccessful, and you have the DISCIPLINE required to stick the with hCG Diet, and you are willing to undergo medical supervision while on the diet protocol, then you are almost certain to find unprecendented success with the hCG Weight Loss Diet where everything else has either failed, or resulted in slipping back to where you started.

In other words, the hCG Weight Loss Diet Protocol is, for MOST people, a CURE for obesity, not simply another diet.

Therefore, after following a more conventional approach to weight loss and not seeing results, you should definitely consider the hCG Diet as a possible salvation for your diet woes.

If you do decide to do the hCG Diet, be sure you go to a TrimYou Certified Clinic.
