Hair Loss-Half of men and women in the United States experience some sort of hair loss or partial balding. About 30 oercent of the population have hair loss by the age of 30, and almost 50 percent have hair loss by the age of 50. Hair loss is so common that it is considered a normal occurance and not a disease. Other animals related to humans, such as the chimpanzee monkeys and orangatains, also lose their hair throughout their lives.

Forms of hair loss-

1-Androgenic alopecia - The most common type of hair loss, also known as male pattern baldness
2-Traumatic alopecia - Hair loss by hair being torn out or ripped from the scalp
3-Drug induced alopecia - Hair loss from one of many perscription medications
4-Alopecia areata - Patchy, spotted and reversible hair loss

Hair loss varies widely depending on race.
Japanese people develop baldness far less commonly than whites. They also develop balding about 10 years later than whites. Blacks are 4 times less likely to have hair loss than whites. Women develop hair loss as frequently and in some cases more then men do, but because of differences from hormones women don't lose as much hair volume and usually dont have spotting issues. Hair styling allow women to hide and conceal hair loss alot more effectively than men can or do. A woman may not notice hair loss but may notice that her ponytail or braid is getting thinner and in some cases shorter. Women also have a completely different pattern of balding than men do. Hair loss has few if any medical complications, but a variety of several serious conditions can cause it. There are some psychological effects associated wiith balding in men and woman. People with hair loss may be more likely to have a negative body image than those without hair loss.

There are 3 cycles of hair growth/growing, resting, and shedding.
In most animals these cycles change with the seasons, All hairs are in the same cycle at the same time. This is why animals have a thicker fuller coat in the fall and shed mostly all of it in the spring. Unlike most animals, in humans each hair has its own pattern of growing, resting, and shedding making human hair the most unique of all species of hair. People sheds hair and regrows hair each and every day.
