You have no doubt heard about all the amazing things you can do with a hair iron and that is most likely the reason you went ahead and bought one. So now it’s time to learn how to use your hair straightener to its fullest potential!

Using your hair iron to straighten your hair is simple and quick but did you know that you can do many other things with your iron? You can curl, flip, add waves and volume too, and it’s just as easy as straightening.

How to use your hair straightener as a curling iron.

Taking a small section of your hair, starting near the top, gently clamp hair between the plates and twist the iron up and around and then slide it down gently. Use your fingers to shape the curl and spray lightly with hair spray.

Making waves

Take a section of hair, starting at the root and twist the iron 180 degrees and then gently slide it down towards the ends of your hair. This method is a little trickier at first but with practice it becomes a quick and easy way to curl and add wave to your hair with your flat iron. Think of it like curling a ribbon with scissors, the faster you go the looser the curl and more wave like, the slower the tighter for more of a curled look.

Flip

Just as you do when straightening your hair, run the iron down the section of hair but when you get to the last 2 inches or so curl the iron in or out depending on which way you want the flip to go.

Hair Straightener Features to Consider

A hair straightener also provides many benefits like taming frizz, adding shine and making the hair appear much healthier looking. Look for the following features for the best results;

Far Infra-Red Heat technology –this works to seal in moisture and keep hair healthy and cause less damage. It will also make styling go faster.

Negative ions- an iron which emits negative ions is very important, these work to tame the frizz, add shine and softness to hair.

Tourmaline plates- tourmaline produces more negative ions than regular plates thus providing the shiny, healthy looking hair you want.

True Ceramic or Titanium Plates- stay away from coated or painted plates, these will chip and peel with time and cause damage by snagging and breaking hair.
