Halitosis is a serious problem in which one releases bad breath from mouth or nasal regions. Even people who are around you feel discouraged to interact with you and it leads to social problems as well.

Types of Halitosis:

There are two types of bad breath syndrome – transient and chronic. As we all know, transient bad breath is a temporary phase that is caused by dry mouth, foods like – onions and garlic, lack of oral hygiene and morning breath. Chronic bad breath on the other hand implies to a more continual phase, which requires treatment.

Causes of Halitosis:

A huge population suffers from chronic bad breath caused by bacteria called streptococcus mutans. Sometimes, diseases like chronic sinusitis, bronchitis, respiratory tract infection, gastrointestinal problems, diabetes, kidney ailments, and postnasal drip and liver problems are responsible for Halitosis. Other reasons at a glance:

  • Less water intake
  • Cavities
  • Excessive coffee, tobacco and alcohol
  • Diet rich in fat and protein
  • Braces, dentures, bacteria left at the back of the tongue.

Halitosis cure:

There are some bacteria present in the mouth, which whenever comes in contact with sugar or protein, produces by-products that have a bad odor. As Halitosis cure, you can use natural products like spearmint and peppermint oil. When used in right combination, these oils work wonders. Dentist knows the best while dealing with this problem. There might be cavities in your teeth that go unnoticed so that should be fixed first. Some easy steps for Halitosis cure:

  • Regular brushing twice a day is recommended. Also make sure that you wash your mouth properly so that no food particles remain inside.
  • Taking sugar in moderation.
  • Having right proportions of carbohydrates, as body needs enough carbohydrates otherwise it will break down fat that will emit bad smell.
  • Drinking a lot of water during the day.
  • Cleaning the tongue, using toothbrush dipped in mouthwash.
  • Alcohol and smoking increases bad odor in the mouth. So it is better to quit these habits and lead a healthy life.
  • Chewing sugarless gum will increase saliva in mouth and help kill bacteria that cause bad breath.
  • Eating raw vegetables like carrots and celery help prevent the formation of plaque. Natural breath freshener is also present in parsley.
  • Using mouthwashes, like a mix of water and hydrogen peroxide in equal quantities can definitely kill germs that cause bad breath.
  • Baking soda can also be used for treatment of halitosis.

Sometimes bad breath is even caused due to hunger. In this case the cure is just to indulge in healthy food. Often the cure for bad breath is not limited to the mouth. The problem lies much deep, in the whole functioning of the body. So it is recommended to take proper care of health and oral hygiene!
