Preserve A Memory Forever w/ Hand, & Footprints
65.. With An Imprint that Will Last!
Preserve a memory Forever, with a Hand, or Footprint of your Child!
Supplies Needed:
- 1 cup- Plaster of Paris (any other brand of plaster will do just fine).
- 1- Lg. bowl, or plastic bucket.
- 1/2 cup- Water
- 1- Decorative/Cookie Tin, or Mold.
- 1- Wire/ Hanger snipping (measuring about 3 in. in length). *Optional*
- 1- Pair: Latex, or rubber gloves.
- Paint, Permanent marker, Colored Markers, & pens.
- 1- Wooden stirring stick.
- 1- Old T-shirt, or smock (to keep clean).
- 1- Mask, or mouth covering (to keep from inhaling any harmful fumes).
- 1- Pair of Goggles (to protect eyes).
Make sure you have all your supplies together. Put on an old shirt, or smock, and be sure to wear your goggles, & mouth covering/mask. Pour plaster into the bucket. Mix water in slowy- stirring with stick- until thick. Keep adding water- using judgement on added estimated amount of water, & plaster for desired thickness, needed. Pour plaster into a decorative cookie tin, or mold.
Position your child's hand, or foot for print. Put palm of hand, and or the foot- flat into the plaster. Lift out carefully, and wash well. Insert your 3 in. wire/hanger clipping (fold into a half circle), into the back of your print, if choosing to hang it on the wall. This will take about 20 minutes to dry. Make any many as you wish. A child's hand/foot will only keep getting bigger, so- no age is really too old. My children all vary from ages: 3, 6, 8 & 11 years old. I figure.. better now, than never. They're hands/feet will only stay this small for so long.
Be sure to write your child's name, & date of the back, if desired. Or else, keep a decorative note- with a poem, & detailed info. in a frame, or on the tin- for further decoration. Paint, a marker, or even computer text can be used for this project. You, or your child can choose to paint, or color with colored markers. There is no wrong way to decorate this project. So, have fun.
This can make a wonderful wall hanging, or kept in a decorative tin- to be shared for years to come! :)

A great idea and one to make lasting treasures...
Have you ever tried adding a teaspoon (for the amount of stuff in your recipe) of Elmer's White Glue while mixing? It makes the finished plaster a little stronger. It will even work when making 'sidewalk chalk' too.
2uesday: Thank you. :) It is a wonderful.. Wish, I had done it when they were smaller as well.
Thank you, Frogyfish. I'll have to give that a try. :)
Great idea ! I have a keyring with little finger prints of my three boys on a silver disc ! The Uk company is www.precious-imp-prints.co.uk/ I think they have diy kits too.
