How Hard Can It Be To Drive a Car
72Learning How To Drive Is Easy
As far as I remember, it was very easy for me to learn how to drive a car. I memorized all commands, switches, buttons, levers, and I was also good at remembering what traffic signs meant. The most difficult part of these driving lessons was to appreciate how much do I need to turn the steering wheel in order to take the curves. I never knew how to do it properly, so many times I ended up with one or two wheels on the sidewalk. Now, 20 years later, I still do this every now and then. It's funny how people never change! It's like a forever losing collega basketball team still dreams to make it into the NCAA on Selection Sunday 2009.
The Hardest Part is to Find the Way
After I knew everything about my car, I imagined I knew how to drive. I did. However, I forgot one essential issue: I did not know my city, so I never knew the ways, the streets and boulevards I needed to go on, in order to arrive from point A to point B. They don't teach you such things in the driving school. GPS devices were not yet invented by that time, so I needed to develop my photographical memory and remember the roads. AARoadwatch, the road service, was not so useful for me in this respect, because they only give you indication about traffic jams, or weather reports, or road reports. They don't tell you when to turn left or right. So, I was on my own, in my car, driving towards wrong destinations so many times, that I was almost going crazy. Besides, I discovered that not all shoes are made for driving, so you'd better try to find a pair of comfortable sports shoes in order to be able to focus on the road.
Who Needs Personal Auto Insurance?
Personal auto insurance is an option that all people who drive cars should look deeper into. It can help you in case of unwanted events. These days, roads are so crowded and people in such a hurry, that accidents frequency has increased a lot. even if you drive safely, it still may happen to you that somebody espe who doesn't just bumps into your car and you get injured. Seeking for online insurance quotes, I discovered that the best provider of compensation is New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance, a company which operates in NJ. I have to ask them, though, if they accept retired people as customers. If not, there's no big deal, as I have several other options which seem to be great.I'm even thinking to give up driving some day and use public transportation. At my age this can be safer. Besides, my insurance premiums will surely be high, because of the age and because of my previous accident records.
How to Find Your Way with Grace
In my desesperation, I found two methods to help me arrive at my desired destinations. The first one was to follow the public transportation. I was a walker for many years, so I knew where bus no 331 was going to, with no problems. Too bad that this plan was a bit flawed: there were times when I followed those buses in the wrong direction, so I almost went out of the city before realizing that I needed to change direction.
The second method was to get down of the car when the crossing lights were red and ask the other drivers where that road leads, then ask them how do I get wherever I needed to go. This was also not a very wise plan, and it led to lots of frustration and tears.
In the end, I bough a map and before leaving home, I used to study it, to memorize the itinerary, then to try to remember it when in traffic. This was great, but the map does not show the One Way streets, so I ended up in the middle of a one way huge boulevard, but on the "other" way, thinking that all other drivers were nuts, because they were driving on my lane in the opposite direction.
I suppose it's great that I'm still alive and able to tell you this story. And believe it or not, I still didn't buy myself a GPS. I will though, next year.
