Whenever you are trying to add a rich look to a house, hardwood floor installation is one of the more preferred methods as it adds a richness and fine quality that few other additions to an existing house can make.  You are going to spend your hard earned money and you should know what to look for before you set out to purchase your supplies.

Choosing wood for your hardwood floor installation can be a bit overwhelming for the beginner with all the different varieties of flooring that you will have to choose from.  You are going to need to keep both your budget and rooms that you are doing in mind when attempting to make the perfect match.

Type of Room

Consider the type of room that you are going to be installing the floors in.  For instance, you should never consider doing hard wood floors in any room that is going to be subject to a lot of moisture.  The first room that comes to mind for this is the bathroom.  In the end, you would be wasting your money as they would almost certainly get ruined.

Traffic Level

High traffic areas are also areas that you should consider going with a darker color.  This of course depends on how active your house is.  If it is a couple or a family with only one child, you can probably get away with a lighter color, but a full house that sees a lot of traffic in these areas will definitely want to use something darker to make up for all of the foot traffic that it will be subject to.

Price Considerations

Another consideration to make before settling on a price is if you are going to be installing it or if you are going to have a professional do the job.  This is a factor as if you only have $x set aside for the complete project, you must account for the money that the installer is going to charge you.

When you are choosing your wood for a hardwood floor installation, you do not necessarily have to jump at the first supplier that you come across.  This is quickly becoming a very highly competitive market and the consumer definitely holds the upper hand in this economy.  Take your time and select something that is cost effective for you and truly represents your personality and the image of the house that you are looking for.
