Head Lice What a steep learning curve.

This morning on British TV I learnt that the UK has a problem with head louse infection.

The problem became apparent to me only a few weeks ago. When visiting my little friend's who invite me for tea once a week they are aged three and five.

Before I begin just to let you know I was a father with three children and a spread of ages and in all the years they went to school as far as I know we never had a problem with head lice

The kids never came home from school with them and they never caught them from their friends. We did have a few problems with worms and the whole family had to be treated but never nits.

I only discover what these parasites are like

When I visited my friends and was told by their mother that they had nits.

Boy was that an eye opener. Watching their mum go through the children's hair with a comb, finding the eggs and worst finding and showing me little crawly thing in the kids hair.

The mum was really annoyed as she did do regular inspections and the kids were usually clean this time was different and the youngest was screaming as she hated the cleaning process. Some EFT sorted that one out.

The first problem that I faced was now the little darlings who sat on me and played and loved to cuddle were full of crawling blood sucking parasites that I did not want to catch, or take home and give to my cat.

A rare and un-presided opportunity for me.

I was itching like hell and my imagination went in to over drive. Then I got my head in gear. I am a hypnotist and neuro-linguistic programmer so to fly in to a hissy fit seamed wrong.

I turned off the itching and began to change what was happening in my own mind. The result of which was all the usual things happened we played and cuddled and on the way home I bought some “kill the blood draining parasites lotion”.

A few days later the youngest decided to cut her hair very short to stop them much to her mothers surprise. The schools admitted that they had avoided informing parents of the problem that policy has now ben changed.

We have had a few flare ups since then however with the schools new policy the problem seams to be reducing. I still have a bottle of “kill the blood draining parasites lotion” in the bathroom but have not had to use it. Now when I visit we have a game of quickly checking each others head and none have yet been found.

If you or your kids have had this problem post a comment below

Some of the things I found out were.

  • The “kill the blood draining parasites lotion” is expensive for a single mum.
  • It can dry the children's scalp.
  • It can make the kids hair fall out.
  • Some parents are not regally checking their children's hair.
  • School are not always vigilant.

Within the first two weeks in reception my daughter got nits. The potion has dried out her scalp and now has psoriasis on her scalp. The only upside of this is that now the nits don't seem to go near her. Also helps that now her hair is longer it is always tied back. Not a nice thing to experience though I'm sure my youngest may get them when she starts school!!
