Fresh Fruits and Vegetables for Good Health
62If you are conscious with your diet and health, fresh fruits and vegetables are the best for you. You can eat them raw or cooked them. There are a lot of cookbooks out there that are just for fruits and vegetables. You can make them into different kinds of salads, just choose whatever fruits and vegetables you want to mix with, just use sauces without fatty matter. If you want to save in your budget, use fruits and vegetables that are in season, they are more economical because the supply is high.
What I Do
Here are the tips in selecting, preparing, cooking, serving and storing fruits and vegetables:
1.) When selecting your favorite fruits and vegetables, choose the one without signs of decay and wilt. Choose the fresh ones because they are more nutritious and better in flavor. Handle them with care to avoid bruising them.
2.) When preparing the fruits and vegetables, wash them properly before peeling and slicing. If they have to be eaten raw especially the vegetables, wash them with soap and running water.
3.) Peel the fruits and vegetables as thinly as possible so that you can get the most out of them.
4.) Before cooking fruits and vegetables, cut them first or slice them. Cook vegetables quickly in covered containers until they are just tender. As much as possible, avoid stirring vegetables during cooking.
5.) Serve vegetables as soon as they are cooked. Cooked vegetables is good to be eaten if serve hot.
6.) If you want to store fruits and vegetables for future consumption, still wash them with soap and running water before storing. Discard decayed fruits and vegetables to prevent contamination. But be sure to eat them before the fruits get over ripe and the vegetables get rotten.
