- Eat smaller and frequent meals instead of 3 full meals in a day. A full stomach can increase your chances of having heartburn. It can help to reduce burping, bloatness and belching.

- Do not sleep or exercise right after you have eaten. Wait for about 2 to 3 hours before you can do that.

- Sitting up or slow walk after your meal can help to drain food and stomach acid into your stomach

- Avoid snacking and eating large meals before your bedtime. - Avoid eating chocolate, fatty foods, fried foods, peppermint

- Avoid spicy foods that contains lots of pepper, chillies

- Avoid eating citrus fruits like grapefruits, tomatoes

- Avoid caffeinated & alcoholic beverages

- Wear loose clothing especially around the waist. Wear tight clothing too often can make your heartburn symptoms worse.

- Stop smoking. Smoking can cause the valve between the espohagus and stomach to relax and not close completely. This allows stomach acid to back up (reflux) into the esophagus.

- Maintain a healthy body weight. Being overweight can put added pressure on your stomach and increase the chance that the stomach acid to back up into the esophagus, causing you to have heartburn problem. Losing some weight can help to reduce your heartburn symptoms and other health problems.
