position in supine and feet slightly elevated
if nauseated or vomited dont give fluids per orem
cool person with sponge baths and fans continuously
PREVENTION
they said that prevention is better than cure. in heta exgaustion and haetstroke it's very much true. to prevent any heat exhaustion and occurence of heatstroke here are some preventive measures:
wearing of light clothing for proper air circulation from the fabric to the skin.
hydrate yourself w/ water. if you are an active person like an athlete you need more than just water so replenish yourself with fluids that contain electrolytes to not just replace the water lost from the body but electrolytes as well, this is also to prevent electrolyte imbalances like: hyponatremia and hypokalemia.
do your activities in the shade or indoors. if you feel that the sun is getting hotter then move away, if it gets too hot don't force it, just find a cool place to do your activities.
take a meal. this helps aside from energy that it it gives from the food that you eat, food generally ahs water, vitamins, and electrolytes to maintain proper function of our body and food helps retain water.
schedule time for activities. where in the suns heat is not at its peak like early in the morning, preferably before 10 am and after 4 pm.

some good information for those of us who take periodic cavalry rides through the Nairobi dessert!
...just kidding.
great article!
Good advice, sk8the, but as Paul Felix said, immediate measures are absolutely necessary because a victim of heat stroke won't have the luxury of time to wait for help. Even an icy-cold container of any beverage placed alternately against the forehead, back of the neck, and inside of both wrists several times will lower body temp, as this cools blood to and from the brain much more quickly than wet clothing.
Another heat-related danger is sun poisoning, a side effect of severe sunburn. The first symptom will be white spots in the lobster-red skin, usually on the front of the upper legs, but can be anywhere that suffered extreme exposure. This is a LIFE-THREATENING CONDITION best treated in a hospital. I and the friends who cared for me for 3 days did not know this when I had it after a day at the lake, but had the good sense to wake me every two hours and make me drink fluids. They also took pictures periodically of my "progress" back to the living, which are still rather frightening to look at. Only later did we learn that I could've died, and they should've taken me straight to an ER when the tell-tale white spots appeared, instead of caring for me at their home. Once sensitized, survivors of sun-poisoning also have to be more careful about exposure to the sun, to prevent another episode.
Hey sk8the you know if you do work in the sun an old trick we used on the roof to last hours in the sun was like jamagenne said about cooling the blood besides wearing a hat for protection on your head we would keep a 5 gal. bucket of water close an we would dip are towel in it and hang this around the back of the neck over shoulders down the front keeping the blood cool and man would this help good advise jamaGenee I had gottin white sun spots and I never take my shirt off in the sun anymore thats been 10 years ago and I can still see the different look of the skin till today yet.~cool~cya
thank u paul felix 4 sharing your knowledge
yes jamagenee an icy cold sealed container or icepacks will do on the areas u mentioned because this areas ls where cooling if more effective as you sald it cools blood quickly.
plp0l experiencing hear strke should be immediately be rushed to the hospltal lf u know that you are at rlsk then have a company that if things like dis happen den u hav some1 to help u than wait for one.
and thank u 4 sharing your knowledge about heatstroke, and sharing your experience on sun poisoning

Hi sk8the I have seen heat exaustion a 1000 times being a roofer all my life everything starts getting dark then dizzieness and your first reaction is grab the water hose and start drinkin water like mad but this is your first mistake vomiting occurs instantly and will continue from personal exsperiance I took my shirt that was allready off got it totally wet under water hose then jumped in my truck turned on the air conditioner put the wet shirt over my back and head then slumped over steering wheel until I felt better which was 5min. or so because if I had waited for help or went for help I would of never made it,life exsperiance is what its all about man great hub~cool~cya
