himalayas -- the abode of heaven
73himalayas
They are home to the two most populous countries of the world, they are home to the world;s most towering peaks, they are home to world's longest rivers, they are home to some splendid and most maginificient features on earth, they are the abode of heaven and snow, they are home to some of the world's most sacred religious places on earth, they are home to the most splendid vegetation, they are home to the most fierce battlefront in the world and the coldest warfront, and they are also home to the most destructive features beneath the surface of the earth and also some of the most polluted mountains on earth. The story of the formation of the Himalayas is equally breathtaking.
The most dotting features on earth -- the Himalayas -- were formed when the Angaraland and the Gondwanaland or the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate collided with each other, with the Tethys sea being squeezed under pressure from both sides, giving rise to the formation of the most splendid feature on earth.
The Himalayas are still very young and are often known as the young fold mountains -- fold mountains, because they have developed in folds. The theory behind the formation of the Himalayas is the Plate Tectonic theory, which says that all features on earth developed because of the movement of the plates-- which form the lithosphere. When two plates collide, it is the beginning of the process of mountain building. In the case of Himalayas, two continental plates collided first with an oceanic plate, which being denser subsided under pressure from both sides, and then collided against each other. The collision was so big that it gave rise to the world's tallest mountain chain. The place where the Indus-Ganga plains are found today was once covered with Tethys sea. Therefore, it is quite rich in quality.
There is no vegetation on the top of the Himalayas, because of extreme climate conditions, while as we come down, we find lichens, moses; alpine vegetation, scrubs, bushes; pine and fir trees, bamboos, etc.
The breathtaking Himalayas are a place of devotion for many Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, and Buddhists. These communitites have a story of their religion. They relate the majestic himalayas to their Gods. Uttaranchal, Dehradun, Mussorie, Shimla, etc. are breathtaking places in the lap of the himalayas.
The himalayas offer quite a many devotional places, such as Amarnath, Kedarnath, Hemkunt, etc.
The Himalayas offer adventure sports for several adventurists. The number of climbers are trekkers scaling Himalayan heights is very large. Every year, several adventurists trek the Himalayan peaks. The mount everest is the heighest peak in world.
With the advent of technology, it has become easy for tourists to travel through the Himalayas. However, the number of tourists and travelers visiting the himalayas has added to the pollution. The waste disposed of by trekkers and travelers in these mountains is degrading the environment and harming the himalayas.

Nicely written hub. I wish there were more pictures too. I have seen the Kanchenjunga from a distance in Sikkim it is really beautiful. Another beautiful place is Mansarovar which is so beautifully described by Kalidasa. Thumbs up for a great hub.

Dear countrywomen, thank you for the advice. I am still working on the hub, so will certainly modify it and add more pictures to it.
Nice hub, bhalla_neet. The himalayas are magnificent, indeed. The pictures are beautiful, and I, too, would like to see more and bigger pictures. I can't think of the himalayas without thinking of mountain climbers, so I'd love to see some photos of some of those adventurous climbers on the slopes. Thumbs up.
Thanks for the comment, Torpey. Indeed, I will upload pictures of the valorous mountain climbers. Thanks for the advice.
I love the pictures of the climbers, bhalia_neet. Somehow I enjoy watching mountain climbers, but I wouldn't want to be one. It looks cold and dangerous!
Dear Neet, Thanks for presenting a very nice Hub on Himalayas. Especially plate tectonic theory which tells how these mountains formed is very interesting. It is great that I have also planned to present a Hub about Himalayas. All of the pictures are very beautiful!!!
