For many people, hives can be common. Surprisingly, there are actually many hives causes. Allergic reactions, infections, diseases and general stress are among the most common causes. Finding out what caused your hives is vital, since you need that information to decide the best hives treatment for them.

Allergic Reactions And Hives

When the body is allergic to things like different foods and medications it responds by producing hives on the skin. It can take up to a few hours for these to show up, or it can happen immediately. A few minutes is all it usually takes for a food allergy to produce hives. It is rare for them to take a few hours but it has been known to happen. Hives caused by medication allergies manifest themselves in different ways for every person.

For those allergic to a medication, some will have hives spread across their back after the first dose has absorbed into their body while others will not show signs of an allergy with hives until a couple of weeks late. Chronic hives are almost 10% of the allergy cases while the rest fall under acute hives. Hives are commonly caused by other things, besides medications and food, including dust, pollen and mold. As far as medications that cause hives go, the most common offenders are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Stress And Hives

Stress is a common cause of hives that may be acute or chronic. You might not think that you are stressed, or you might only be under a little stress. It's possible that you may even think that you are totally calm. However, your body may be extremely stressed and this can cause severe hives. Stresses don't have to be negative, but even positive things can spend too much energy and cause hives.

It Could Be Something More Serious

Another problem that could cause hives is an infection somewhere in your body. When the body responds to fight off something as an allergy or even an infection it most commonly produces a fever and even hives. Bacteria can be a general cause o infection-related hives, but other causes can include illnesses like urinary tract infections, hepatitis and stomach ulcers.

Of course, diseases can also cause hives. Remember, the hives are a signal to you that something is wrong in your body. Diseases that cause hives are usually liver or kidney-related or autoimmune disease. Another common thing that can cause hives is high or low thyroid function. If the body attacks its own healthy skin cells, which is known as autoimmune disease, it can also create hives.

Regardless your hives causes, there are plenty of treatments that you can try. Finding a treatment that works for you will take a little time and patience, though. If you can't identify the cause of your hives, or if you have an especially bad case, not just a simple allergy, talk to a doctor about potential treatment options.
