Jesus ended His sermon on the mount and gave the listeners some advice. In Matthew 7:7, He urged them to "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"

The words are simple and direct and carry a lot of weight. Jesus guarantees that His disciples would be given what they ask for if they seek, they will find it. The message does not have a provisional clause. Just ask! It is as simple as that. Can you visualize how the multitude would react? Just ask and it will be given! Completely free! No asking price! Can you imagine someone offering you a free gift to a crowd in a speech? There is nothing to qualify what type of gift, whether big or small, whether expensive or cheap, This is a free gift from Jesus! All people love free gifts! Some dream of palatial residences, others dream of gorgeous clothes and expensive jewellry, while still others dream of fantastic vacations and food, etc, etc. These things do the majority of the people seek, things that are worldly and last for a certain period. However, there are some people who have foresight and think of what the future holds for them. Eternal Life! Life on this earth is transient, lasting perhaps for a hundred years if you are lucky to live that long. What happens after that?

Since Jesus openly invites you to ask, and you have complied, what follows then? The invitation is open to all who ask. Does Jesus give to all and sundry? Are you a follower? There must be some rules governing the process. You have to be a follower of Jesus Christ, have faith in Him, obey and respect His commands, love God and love your neighbour as yourselves. Seek the Lord Jesus diligently. Love is the ultimate word. With love, you can adore, obey, forgive, not hold grudges toward one another. Love is a builder of peace, joy, blessings, and honour.

The Holy Spirit is ultimately the most sought after gift you can ask from the Lord. The Holy Spirit of God is the Spirit of Jesus Christ. It is the power or engine that generates the works of God on earth or in heaven. The Holy Spirit is limitless in action and power, and can accomplish any task without failure. Therefore, it is the most precious gift you can ask from the Lord God.

• The Spirit of Knowledge

Truth is very important in one's character. People trust in those who are trustworthy for they can rely on their word. The clergy and doctor are more dependable than the car salesman. Their word is their bond.

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 16:13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide us into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 14:26

But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Men of holiness will not commit any evil. They respect what others have and will not be tempted to covert the goods of the other persons, or their wives.

Romans 1:4

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

Psalms 30:4

Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

If people have wisdom, they will be able to deal with any situation that befalls on them, be it good or bad. They will rationalize about the situation and take appropriate steps.

Ephesians 1:17

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Isaiah 11:2

And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

The caption on the image of the fear of the Lord explains it very clearly and concisely.  If one fears or rather respects the Lord, he understands that the Lord is righteous and fair to all the people He has created and treats everyone with justice and equality.

Isaiah 4:4

Justice is neither blind nor bias for it weighs the pros and cons and comes out with fair judgment. Do not judge by appearance alone, but weigh the balance. Make no hasty judgment.

Isaiah 28:6

And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.

Isaiah 4:4

Jesus pours out the spirit of grace upon the sinners of the world and redeemed us from the clutches of hell and resurrected us from death to new life. Hope of salvation is now within our reach. We must be nutured in God's commandments to grow to our potential height and stature, and be acceptable to the Lord.

Zechariah 12:10

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and supplication: ...

Romans 8:2

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Hebrews 10:29

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

With the abundance of the different gifts of the Holy Spirit, we should use our knowledge to perfect ourselves in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. With our faith which is of utmost importance to our souls, and knowledge of God and men, we should be able to integrate ourselves into becoming the most welcome citizens of heaven to the glory of God.  Knowledge helps us to understand the mystery of salvation and all other problems of life so we can overcome the obstacles.

Isaiah 11:2

Isaiah 28:9, 13

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

The Holy Spirit is the best gift one can have from God for it is the Spirit of God and also the Spirit of Jesus Christ. God manifested Himself in the Holy Spirit by means of different channels in wisdom, truth, holiness, counsel, grace, knowledge and teaching His disciples to respect His Lordship. The Holy Spirit acts as a multi encompassing power for the good of the population of the world. There is none other perfect gift you can ask from God.

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his comandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight (1 John 3:22).
