The (supposed) trials and tribulations of home swimming pool maintenance...

I have a neighbor, two doors down, who has an inground swimming pool in his back yard.  It seems like anytime I hear him talking about his pool the subject of his conversations are focused more on the maintenance of his home swimming pool, specifically, on the cost of maintaining it the way that he wants to and also the cost of buying the proper swimming pool supplies and swimming pool accessories that he feels he needs for his backyard oasis of pleasure and how maybe he will search online again somemore to see if he can find a better price for them that way.  Just the other day, I overheard him talking to another one of his neighbors about how it is time for him to purchase a new fancy cover for his backyard pool, and how expensive the inground swimming pool covers he had looked at all seem to be.  I don't know much about swimming pool covers except for what I have heard from this guy in the past; In fact, before getting to know my neighbor, I wasn't even really aware of the existence of such things as pool covers (apparently also known as swimming pool blankets) - I mean I know that I had probably seen them covering over public and private pools in the past, just that they are obviously not something that have really etched a place into my memories.  I wasn't aware of them, never mind the fact that there are so many varieties of them.  Now thanks to this guy, I know that there does in fact exist things called solar swimming pool covers, mesh swimming pool covers, above ground swimming pool covers, (the aforementioned) inground swimming pool covers, Winter pool covers, and safety pool covers, just to name a few. See, to me, this starts to all souind alittle redundant: to call something a"Winter cover" or a"safety cover", when I would expect that all pool covers are supposed to protect the pool during the cold winter months and are supposed to maybe help stop people from falling into the pool when it is still full but not in use.  Okay, maybe it is just me.

However, like I said, it doesn't end with the covers.  Apparently ther are a number of accessories that one can get for their pool.  You can also be the proud owner of a swimming pool cover reel to make the task of removing and storing your pool cover easier (I guess). You can also get yourself a swimming pool reel and swimming pool blanket protective storage cover to protect the protector from harmful UV rays.  Okay. So, that is ... something to cover the covering.  Okay. ( I just know that somewhere there is someone saying to them self, 'duh, that is sooo obvious')  And hey, you know what? I totally forgot about the whole hassle of dealing with the water pumps and water filtration sysytems that come with home swimming pool ownership, too. Silly me.

Maybe it is just me (again), but i can't help but think that anything that would cause me enough grief or frustration to the extent that I found myself constantly bringing it into my conversations with others who probably dont really care all that much about the subject, is something that I might be better off not having in my life.  Of course I would suppose that people that own their own inground or above ground swimming pools and have done so for a while would not be experienceing that new owner buzz that keeps them going on about the joys of home pool ownership, so all I end up getting are the conversations full of gripes.

I also suppose that if i were rich enough to be able to afford my own pool in my own back yard I would be singing a different tune ... one about the trials and tribulations of having to maintain my backyard swimming pool. lol
