One of the coolest things to do with a video iPod nowadays is hook it up to a television. This allows you to play videos, photo slideshows and music through it. As long as you have a video iPod, iPod classic or iTouch, you can hook it up to a TV via a set of A/V cables. In order to set up a connection, you need your iPod, iPod-based videos and A/V cables.

The A/V cables you need are standard ones. Basically, any type of 1/8th" RCA cable will do the trick. Of course, Apple and other third party companies offer their only types of cables to do it. They are a tad bit more expensive, but they can offer a higher playback quality than just basic A/V cables. This may be important depending on the type of videos you want to play on your TV.

Before you hook everything up, you want to change the Settings in your iPod. Go to the video options and make sure you set it up for the best possible playback. In most cases, this means setting the TV Signal to NTSC and to turn on the Widescreen mode depending on the video you are playing. Always leave the TV Out to Ask, this way you can ensure you want to play the videos on your TV. If you set it to No, it will only play on the iPod, and if you set it to Yes, it will always play on the TV automatically.

You may have to change the settings depending on the video. The Ask feature of the TV Out will give you the option to do so before the video begins playing. Finding the right playback and videos is key to the best possible playback. When it comes to iPod videos, the possibility for taking advantage of iTunes purchases and other downloads on your TV is never-ending.
