Turkey is a large living birds in the genus Meleagris. Turkey is either two living species ,they are

1. Meleagris gallopovo
2. Meleagris ocellata

Meleagris Gallopovo commonly known as the Wild Tuekey,is native to North America forests and is the heaviest member of the Galliformes.

The Wild Turkey was a very important food animal to Native Americans, but it was eliminated from much of its range by the early 1900s.

Wild Turkeys are very calculating birds and will fly or run at the sign of danger and Turkeys are surprisingly agile fliers and cunning, unlike their domestic counterparts.

Identification of Wild Turkey

Large and dark ground-dwelling bird,Long, powerful legs, Large, fan-shaped tail, Bare head and neck,Short, slightly downcurved bill,ip of tail chestnut-brown or white.

Meleagris ocellata commonly known as the Ocellated Turkey,is native to the forests of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

The Ocellated Turkey is relatively large bird, at around 70-122 cm (28-48 in) long and an average weight of 5 kg (11 lbs) in males and 3 kg (6.6 lbs) in females.

The Ocellated Turkeys spend most of the time on the ground and often prefer to run to escape danger through the day rather than fly.

The Ocellated Turkeys can fly swiftly and powerfully for short distances as the majority of birds in this order do in necessity.

Turkey hunting is a challenging and thrilling sport ,involving the aim and capture or killing of a wild turkey.Wild Turkeys are very intelligent and cunning,so difficult to hunting them.We need to follow some tips and tactics. Turkey hunting done by two methods Calling and Stalking.

In Calling hunting method,the hunter uses female turkey sounds to bring the male turkey to him,Certain hen calls can be affected to bring the turkey closer to the hunter because turkeys are extremely articulated. These include crabs,cackle, fighting purrs, and the Kee Kee. Hunters have also been known to assimilate like a male turkey to make another male believe there is another bird trying to take over his area. Assimilating is often a last resort as other hunters could attempt to hunt the caller.

In Stalking method is to pursue prey or quarry in a stealthy manner. This requires the hunter to move very slowly and quietly after the turkey. In Pennsylvania does not allow for the hunter to stalk a turkey during its spring turkey season.

Stalking hunting can be a dangerous hunting method when used on public land and land occupied by other hunters as the movement and noise of a hunter walking through the woods and possibly using calls that sound like turkeys.

• If you are a beginning or intermediate turkey hunter, you may have found hard to hunt the Turkey because ,it is a challenging bird for someone to pursue and hunt. turkey has a surprising intelligence and keen eyesight,so the hunters should take care during the hunting.
• Decreases the visibility for the turkeys and allows the hunter to get in close enough to make a shot.
• In addition to being able to see a great distance, they also have a broad range to their eyesight as well, making it difficult to sneak up to them from behind.
• It is possible to get within range of a gang of turkeys, but it takes patience and skill. With a good rifle, a ghillie suit, and an effective turkey call you should be able to ou tsmart those turkeys once and for all.
• While large domesticated turkeys are generally unable to fly, smaller, lighter domesticated turkeys known as heritage turkeys and wild turkeys can fly.
• It is best to try and find turkeys in the evening as they are preparing to roost.
