Hot tubs can be a fun and relaxing addition to your home, but learning the proper care and maintenance is a crucial part to insuring that your hot tub lasts, and serves to its fullest. Take your time to learn proper hot tub installation.

Obviously you want to insure that you are taking care of the water itself because it is the main point of the hot tub. Keeping fresh water in your hot tub and using the right filtration systems can make a huge difference in the overall function of your hot tub. You should drain and check the filtration system in your hot tub at least every 5-6 months to prevent blockage or erosion.

Monitoring your water is equally important, you should always test your waters chlorine levels at least once per week. When it comes to the filtration system, especially for those chlorine or bromine systems, you should clean the filter every 2-4 weeks depending on how much the tub is used and the amount of chlorine in the system.

Sometimes the cabinet needs to be cleaned, but for those of the wooden variety, they are sealed with a special sealant during manufacturing, which keeps the cabinet looking new. Though it is recommended that a special hot tub cabinet sealer be applied once per year as needed. But for vinyl skirting or any other plastic material, a wipe down with a soft, damp towel is all that is needed.

The History of the Hot Tub

Hot tubs are as popular today as ever, but did you ever stop to think about where the hot tub came from? Hot tubs have been dated back thousands of years from the ancient Egyptians to the Roman empire. Though they were not exactly like the ones we have today they were quite similar. Okay so maybe they did not use jets or colored lights but they did use them as a social gathering as well as for bathing. Most of the time hot lava rocks would be dropped into a pool of water making the water bubble with heat.

These hot pools were not just used for hygienic purposes, they were also a key part in ancient Rome’s way of life, marriage ceremonies took place in these ancient hot tubs, as well as the general socialization of the people. They would gather in these hot tubs to socialize and just generally enjoy themselves. It is amazing to take a look back and see the differences, as well as the similarities between hot tubs and spas thousands of years ago compared to the hot tubs today and how they are used.
