The hotpoint gas stove, model-rgb508pph1wh- looks just like the average stove you will find in an apartment, it works just the same but the parts are a little different, the older model carry a safety valve and a pilot assembly in the bottom of the oven.

This older model has what we call a standing pilot--all this mean is that when the stove is installed and the gas turned on you manually light the pilots on top and the one in the oven, and the pilot stays there.

The difference with the new model is--that it have a pilot in the bottom of the oven and also a thermocouple,if you just try to light this pilot it will not light,

in order for it to light you have to push in the thermostat knob--light the pilot and keep holding the knob in for one minute till the thermocouple warm up.

If you release the thermostat knob and the pilot goes out you will need to light it again, buy before you do use a small brush to clean out the pilot, sometimes when you try multiple times to light the pilot it is possible for a piece of match to fall into the pilot and prevent the flame from coming out to heat up the thermocouple,so as a rule always clean it out before you try to light it,the instructions on how to light the pilot is sometimes written on the door.

We purchased HotPoint RGB508PPH2Wh a couple of months ago. Pilot lights are lit, top & oven. We became aware of an odor, we thought it was somebody's cooking. We smell it much too frequently & find it definitely comes from the oven. It resembles a popcorn kind of smell. What is it? I use only hot water & mild detergent to clean the stove. The book that came with the stove isn't descriptive enough.

i'm not sure what that smell could be, what did you cook recently, sometimes sauce or oil spill and run under the bottom cover usually this will go away when it burns off

When I am using the gas oven on my hotpoint range it will periodically begin to beep showing a code F 2. An owners manuel did not come with the range so I don't know what F2 means. Can you help?

We noticed on our hotpoint gas range, that whenever a pilot light goes out, we can smell the propane leaking in to the house, there is a shut off valve that we can manually turn off, but if we run out of propane or the wind blows the pilot out then it seems the propane keeps leaking in- is there no safety measure to let us know this is happening sooner than when we smell it ourselves, it seems dangerous?
