how not to become a victim of crime
70Protecting yourself from preditors
Weather you live in a small town or a large city, there are people out there that can and Will try to harm you. Most people that are targeted are small children, teens and female adults. There are many ways you can become a victim of some sort of crime. The real challenge is preventing yourself from becoming that victim.
here is an example of what a victim goes through when they have been hurt or traumatized.
1. Feel like it is their fault.
2. feelings of anger
3. Feelings of suicide.
4. feelings of being violated(if the victim has been assaulted, robbed or raped)
5. Afraid to trust any one.
6. Resentment against a certain sex(another female or male)
These feelings are normal after being a victim of a crime.
I am going to now write an example of how to handle a stranger that lies and seems like they are a good person.
A woman in her mid twenties meets up with some one claiming to be from a church that can help with some issues that are going on in her life. The woman takes the precaution to meet the person in a public place because she does not know him. The woman meets up with the man. The man hands her some food as a good jester that she thought was to help. She sits in the car and explains her situation to the man. The man starts the car up and drives away from the public area. The woman tells the man that she felt uncomfratable and that she needs to get out of the car because it was not the agreement to leave the public area. The man says that he just needs to go to his bank, but stops where there is no light and no people around. He pulls out some money and tells the woman that he can giver her more if she leaves with him to his place. The woman says no that she needs to go home. The man than tries to assault her. The woman pushes him away and says no. the woman got out of the car and starts walking towards her home, She notices the man following her. The woman goes to a nearby house and rings the door bell. A person opens the door and she calmly lets the person know what is happening. They get the licence plate of the car and call the police.
In this sinario the woman not only was protecting her self but her family as well by not going streight to her home. She stood her ground and got out of the car. She stated that she was leaving. She did not yell at the man and she did not swear at him. She went to a nearby house to get help and call the police. This is a true sinario as it was some one I know. The police did catch up to the man and place him under arrest. The man was wanted in conection to other assualts that happend in the previous week.
Most times these kinds of crime go unreported because the victim is too afraid to step forward and say something. If you do not say something and tell the authorities this makes you a victim for a long time. I say this because than you have all this emotions trapped inside of you and you can not get justice for your self.
Here are the steps of reporting a crime of this nature properly.
1. make sure that you try to get an accurate discription of the person, or veihicle discription or a licence plate if possible.
2. Do not remove any clothing that you may have been wearing at the time of the assault.
3. call the police right away
4. explain what happend and write a statement. at this time the police will make sure that you are ok and if you need medical attention.
5. Do not miss your court date as this is important for you so that you can ease your mind and get some justice for yourself.
6. Seek counsalling if you find that you can not control your emotions even after the court hearing.

I agree with Terry, Criminals are a cowardly lot and your advice is good. Getting help afterwards is very important.

Good idea. Criminals that target individuals usually look for certain charecteristics, shy, slight build, walks with head down, does not make eye contact, and appears unconfident, scared or weak. That's why alot of women, children and elderly are victimized. Criminals look for easy targets.
