DOA Shrimp

How to catch more fish with DOA Shrimp

Being a Surfer, I spend plenty of time in the water. If fact more time surfing than fishing so I have plenty of time to watch fish and fisherman. I grew up fishing rivers in the mid-west. I learned the principles and practices of consistent fish catching from my grandfather.

Fortunately I have also had a chance to test out the methods all over the USA and Hawaii. I was first taught to observe the water for movement, to also stay away from the edge of the water. In other words don't scare the fish. Yes they know when you are there. Watch to see the movement of the water meaning the current.

Once you are aware of the waters movement, you can then determine how heavy of a DOA shrimp you will need. I normally use a 1/4 oz one. I cast it up stream and allow it to drift down, when it hits the bottom I let it sit then give it a few slight jerks.

Try to figure out a rhythm you will find that some types of fish like a faster motion some a slower. I like the glow in the dark ones but the most effective ones for me have been the yellow with speckles.

I do not remember a time when I didn't catch a fish with a DOA. In fact my friends said that the snapper don't bite on fake shrimp at their place. I went over last week with a yellow sparkled DOA Shrimp caught 2 very nice red snappers. In less than 5 minutes and 8 casts.

They didn't hit the DOA until I slowed down the motion to ultra slow. DOA is a rubber Shrimp with a weight and a hook on it. I carry several colors in a small case. They dont seem to smell very much fish love them. I caught over 10 fish with one lure, so I feel the are very economical! Amazon has them. They make a great gift because they work!

I remember well the days of my fishing youth. This hub brought back good memories from fishing when I was a kid. Great info.
