Choosing bathroom wall cabinets
When you decide to buy new bathroom wall cabinets there are a few things to take into account. The first thing is your budget. How much are you willing to spend on the cabinets and will you be able to put them up yourself or will you need to pay someone to do it for you?
As soon as you know exactly how much you can spend on the bathroom wall cabinets themselves, you need to look at the following:
What color are your bathroom walls and tiles?
What shapes and patterns does your tiles have, if any?
What color are your bathroom curtains?
Bathroom wall cabinets have different shapes and sizes. If the tiles in your bathroom are plain – no patterns, just one or two colors – then the choice in cabinets will be infinitely easier. If however your tiles have patterns on it, you will need to look at cabinets with similar designs. It would not look very good to place a bathroom wall cabinet with a flower design in a bathroom where the tiles have animals on it or vice versa.
The space on your bathroom wall available for the wall cabinet should also be taken into account. If you buy a cabinet that takes up more than half of your bathroom wall, it might look a bit overdone. Measure exactly how big the cabinet should be before you go out to shop for it. Also measure how ‘deep’ it should be – how far it stands out from the wall. If the cabinet stands out too much then you will inevitably hit your head against it or another part of your body.
The bathroom that needs the new wall cabinets, is it a guest bathroomor the main one? If it is a guest bathroom then the color scheme should be neutral – nothing too girly or that fits mainly for boys. You should also consider who the main ‘user’ will be. If children or someone with a disability will mainly use the bathroom, then you might consider placing the wall cabinet low enough for them to reach.
The final thing to consider when buying a bathroom wall cabinet is what you want to use it for. If you will mainly use it for things like your toothbrush, toothpaste and hand soap, then it need not be very big. If however you need to use it for other things such as shampoo and conditioner and other ointments, then the bigger the better. It is also usually very good to have mirrors on the ‘doors’ of the cabinet but that is entirely up to you.
