Ceramic tiles are indeed durable but in the same manner that hardwood floors require special care, so does ceramic tiles. If you are a homeowner that has this kind of flooring then you know how cool your floors are during the summer months. It is a refreshing feeling to walk on clean tiles. The opposite is true if the tiles are dirty because unlike carpet and rugs what ever is on the tile will stick to the soles of your feet. This is why it is important to know the proper cleaning techniques. You can clean your tile floor in many ways but you can also cause considerable damage that way too.


The thing to knowing how to clean ceramic tile floor is the use of mats. Yes placing mats in entryways outside and inside the doors will help prevent dirt from making its way on the tile. This is more than necessary during rainy days because otherwise you'll leave muddy footprints throughout your tile floor. If that were to happen then cleaning the tile would be no problem as you can lightly mop the dirt away. How to clean ceramic tiles requires a different approach, a finesse approach. You don't need to apply too much pressure when mopping and sweeping the floor because doing so will eventually take out the beautiful shine of the ceramic. So mop and sweep the floor lightly. If a certain area of you floor is very dirty with stubborn stain then spot clean that tile or tiles. Use a damp cloth with warm water and scrub the dirt out. There are some ceramic cleaners available but more often than not they are not really necessary unless you have heavy foot action. And that's another thing to remember, removing shoes at the door entrance will do wonders for your tile floor. Dirty shoes can easily dirty your floor the stains and mark will be easily seen unlike carpet, which is a good thing by the way. Using a soft brush is also recommended for removing dirty and water with a little soap will suffice. You can add a mild detergent or a little lemon juice for some fragrance. Once you have scrubbed your floor then gently dry your ceramic time with a clean towel. You should always avoid bleach, ammonia, steel wool, turpentine, scouring powders and oil based cleaners. All of these products can damage your ceramic tiles and also take out their lovely glaze. They can also discolor you grout and make your floor looking tainted. If you have heavy furniture then use table leg protectors to help protect your tile floor from damage, such as scratches, cracks and breaks within the tile.
