How to clean pet urine
61
If your pet has had an accident in the house the faster you clean up the mess the better. Remember your pet has a much better sense of smell than you and if he detects the odour he may be tempted to mark the area at a later time.
- Soak up any urine with paper or a towel (don't rub it in, dab it up)
- Start at the outside of the stain and work inwards
- Rinse the area with water to dilute the urine
- Soak up the water with paper or a towel
- Place a towel over the spot and place something heavy on it - leave for a while. (If you have a wet dry carpet vacuum use it :)
- Use an effective pet neutraliser if you have one or use baking soda. (be careful not to damage carpet, you may want to test a small area first.)
- Remember liquid soaks down into a carpet. Lift it up and clean underneath if you can.
- Don't use an ammonia based product as pets are attracted to it!
- If the stain reappears repeat the process by rinsing with more water
- If the stain won't go away consider commercially cleaning the carpet
If your urine stain was caused by a dog or puppy you may want to look at my article on house training dogs and puppies.
All the best,

They might look cute and cuddly, but Military Working Dogs are all business when it comes to doing their jobs. In Yuma, some dogs from the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy train at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground before being deployed with the handlers to work various jobs overseas.
