Cleaning the iPod should be part of the maintenance involved in using the device.  While most iPod owners purchase the device, begin to use it and that is that, they do not think about the long-term care they need to take part in.  Cleaning the iPod can easily be done and takes little time to keep the unit pristine.

In order to clean the iPod, you want to use a washcloth or paper towels.  You can utilize a Windex-based cleaner, and you want to spray the washcloth as opposed to on the device.  Make sure the paper towel or washcloth is sparingly sprayed.  From there, you can wipe down the unit.  When it comes to the iPod screen, you want to use a circular motion to clean it.  This helps keep any build up from accumulating and gets it loose enough to wipe clean.

If there are areas where grime has built up and you cannot get it, you can use a Q-Tip to loosen the dirt and wipe it away.  You want to make sure you are as gentle as you can be when cleaning the iPod.  Otherwise, you may cause more harm than good.  You also want to ensure you are using a soft Q-Tip, washcloth or paper towel otherwise you may scratch the screen.

While cleaning the iPod may not seem like a big deal, the buildup of grime especially near the connectors can cause trouble with the device's overall use.  By taking the proper care of your device, utilizing a case and being careful with the iPod, you ensure a full lifetime of use out of it.  By not taking the time to properly care for your iPod, you are setting yourself up for disappointment when the device stops functioning down the line due to poor handling.
