You will want to give you and your ex time to get over the break up. I would recommend to you that you and your ex have at least 1month of no contact. You and your ex must not have no communication and must not see each other right after the break up in order to get your ex to fall back in love with you again.

There are some exceptions and that is if you work together, have school together, have kids, or your going through a divorce. When you do talk to each other only talk about what you have to talk about and nothing else. If you end up seeing your ex do not try to make them jealous or act weird. When you feel like you have had enough time to get over your ex you will want to give them a phone call to see how they are doing. Only talk on the phone for 3-5 minutes and that is it and do not talk about your feelings and your emotions.

If your ex brings up the past say.

"I know you may have some unresolved feelings, I know, But right now is not the time to talk about it, maybe we will talk about it in the future after me and you have had more time to move on."
