Targeted Surfers

Targeted Surfers

It's common knowledge that targeted traffic is simply better than untargeted traffic. It's much better to get 100 hits from highly targeted users than 500 hits from untargeted users. Yet, most internet markete still waste their time attempting to get ranked for search terms that are not relevant for their target audience.

For example, while attempting to sell a physical product, affiliate marketers will often focus their tim on getting ranked for the product name. Some will even open Adwords campaigns on product names, and you know what? They can perform fairly well. However, I would much rather be ranked for the term °buy [product name]° then simply the product name. And you know what else? Oftentimes, it is easier to rank for these longer keywords.

At one point, I started a HubPages Hubs with the intention of ranking high for a health product name wit the word 'buy' in front. The result? I shot up to the top of the rankings within a few days, and I netted two sales in the first two days that I was there.

When creating an Adwords campaign, most people know that bidding on broad terms is often a waste of money. The clicks will come, but the visitors will not be targeted enough for the advertiser to turn a profit. Organic rankings are no different. It is a waste of your time for you to attempt to rank for a broad term. While it does feel pretty good to get a page in the rankings for broad terms, and it can result in good traffic, it does not guarantee an increase in sales.

It is also much more time consuming to rank well for one of these terms, and the chances of doing so are much lower. Instead, spend your time ranking for terms that are worth your time and will actually bring in the sales.

Therefore, when doing your keyword research, consider which keywords will result in the most targeted visitors. Settling for a main keyword that simply gets a lot of searches can kill a campaign. If you wouldn't bid on it in an Adwords campaign, then don't bother attempting to rank for it.

If you adequately choose a long-tail keyword that will reap targeted visitors to your page, you will outsmart your competition, because most are competing for the untargeted, broad keywords. Selecting targeted keywords, therefore, can also help you in the next component of a good keyword, which is one with low competition.

Most people will do this by hand, but there are, of course, tools that will do this for you. If you've got the money to spend, Xtreme Conversions is an extremely helpful tool that can help internet marketers find the most profitable keywords. Although this tool is made for those who use Adwords to drive traffic, it is equally valuable for those attempting to rank in the organic listings as well.

One of the best ways to find profitable keywords is to bid on them with Adwords. If you are able to generate sales bidding on a single keyword, you know that those searching are targeted for the sale. You can create campaigns for single keywords, or you can load a in a list of your keywords and let Xtreme Conversions to tell you which ones are most profitable.

Again, finding targeted keywords is extremely important. It is of no use to you to rank for terms that won't bring you in the sales. Therefore, take the time to find the keywords that will bring home the bacon, and you will reap the results tenfold.
