How to Motivate Your Workers
82Why Motivate Workers
Every business owner wants to motivate their workers so that they will work more effectively and create better results. There is no secret formula for this. However, I gather all the ideas that I have learned from my friends who are businesspersons also and apply to my workers those I think that are applicable only. Here is what I applied to my workers and they improved a lot. Maybe you can try them also to your workers.
1.) Brainstorm with your workers.
Set a special meeting with your workers in your workplace and encouraged them to think of new ways to increase efficiency and productivity of your company. Use first freewheeling brainstorming where anyone calls out an idea at no particular order, until all ideas are expressed. If nobody speaks, you can ask each worker to write down ideas on a small paper without writing their names.
2.)Maximize the capability of your workers.
You must be able to identify and use the strengths and weakness of your workers. You must maximize the capability of workers through mentoring, training and continuous feedback. Build a relationship of trust with workers.
3.) Set objectives.
The workers are given specific aims and targets that are aligned with the company’s goal and objectives. The company should let the workers know about what the company is trying to achieve and how they are expected to contribute to those goals.
4.) Delegate responsibility.
It is important to delegate responsibility to the lowest levels of your company. Workers who are involved in a process would know best how to handle and improve it.
5.) Do what is right.
Show to your workers that you are determined to do what is right. If they made a mistake because of their bad behavior, you must really talk to them about the problem. Now if it needs for a disciplinary action, then do it. Just make sure that you do it fairly and with equal treatment.
6.) Be flexible.
Show to your workers that you are adaptable to changes. If they feel this, they will be encouraged more to contribute to the company.
7.) Practice patience.
The employees will feel confident in their contributions to the company if you will show to them that you have the patience and time to listen to them, while showing understanding and compassion. In this way, also, they will not feel rejected or isolated and they will feel that their ideas count.
8.) Respect your workers.
If you want your workers to respect you, you must respect them also. Listen to them and give time if they want to talk to you. Family matters or workplace concerns, listen to them. Understand their feelings and emotions. There should be a mutual respect with them.
9.) Talk and listen to your workers.
Now if you observed that your workers are showing boredom at work, lack of cooperation and participation in your meetings, talk to them. It is better if you talk to them close door. This way you will know what their concerns are and can make a solution to their problems.
10.) Do not be too strict.
Do not be too strict to your workers because it discourages them. It restricts their ability to make decisions on their own. They will feel that you do not trust them.
11.) Thank them.
Praise your workers for a job well done. If you don’ have the budget for a monetary rewards, even a simple thank you will do. This way the workers will be motivated to do better.
12.) Consult with your workers.
We have a saying that two heads are better than one. Ask suggestions, comments and reactions to your workers regarding their work and workplace. Ask them what they can contribute for the goodness of the company.
