Keyword Research Tool

Its All About The HTML

Website optimization is one of my favorite things to do. I love to make tweaks to my websites and see if they move up in the search engine rankings. I mostly enjoy the "on page" optimization, which is all about the content of the site and how it is organised, rather than the "off page" optimization which is all about getting back links and building authority.

When it comes to "on page" optimization, titles and keywords rule.

The most important part of your website is the title that shows in the top of your browser window when you view your website. This will be what ever you have between the <title> tags </title> in your website's HTML code.

Obviously, you want to put the keyword that you are targeting in between these tags. In other words, ask yourself:

"What would people search for to find my website"

That word or group of words will be what you want to target. You also want to include that keyword or keyword phrase in the other titles on your website that are the sub headings of different articles or sections of your website. These will be designated with the <h1>, <h2>, and <h3> tags in your HTML code.

Here is a good example. Open one of your Hubs. Right click on the page and pick view page source. Scroll through and you will see that all of your capsule titles are in between the <h2>capsule title</h2> tags. So, it makes sense that you want to also include your keywords in your capsule titles.

When it comes to Hub pages and Squidoo lenses, this tactic is critical to your success in the search engine results. Chances are, you are competing with other Hubbers and Squidooers that are targeting the same keywords. Strategically placing your keywords in the capsule and module titles can give you an edge over your competition.

Here is a pointer for those of you that have your own web sites. Never use the <h1> tag more than once. You can use the <h2> tag multiple times but it also helps to at least use one <h3> tag. I have had good results using my primary keyword in the <title> and <h1> tags, then use my secondary keywords in the <h2> and <h3> tags.

Also make sure you bold and italicize your keywords that occur in your content. This little tactic can give you a huge advantage over your competition who are not using these little tricks.

Google Keyword Tool is New and Improved

This is kind of an addendum to this Hub regarding keyword research. When I first wrote this Hub, I was not very keen on the Google keyword tool. The tool always provided a good list of keywords, but did not offer much information as far as statistics.

There would be a bar that was colored that represented the amount of searches compared to the other keywords on the list, but no actual numbers. You did not know how many times the keyword was actually searched for.

That problem has been reconciled. My guess is that they got enough feed back to go ahead and upgrade the tool. You have to hand it to Google. They are constantly doing whatever it takes to make the users experience a better one. It's obvious why they are number one.

Here is a link to the Google keyword tool:

Now I still say Keyword Elite is the best keyword tool because you enter your logins for Adwords and your Word Tracker account and it takes the results from both and combines them together.

Plus it does all the other KEI and price per click analysis for you. It will also create adsense pages for you and let you watch other people's pay per click ads. I have been using it for 3 years now and it is still my favorite.

If you are on a tight budget and can't afford the $150 for Keyword Elite then I would incorporate the new Google tool along with the free version of Word Tracker to build your keyword list.

Check out this blog post I made that explains how to find those keywords that will be easy to rank in Google but still get a generous amount of search engine traffic. I am revealing one of my secrets here!
