Just like the iPod, the iTouch may need to be reset every so often.  Over time, especially when it comes to video playback, the device may freeze.  If you shuffle through music, photos or videos back-to-back may cause the device to freeze, too.  In that case, you may have to reset the iTouch to get it back to working function.

Resetting the iTouch, since it utilizes flash memory, keeps a certain amount of working space in its primary memory.  This allows you to easily access applications and other information instantly as opposed to loading it on a whim; songs, videos and photos are loaded out of the secondary memory and are not accessible the second you begin to go through them.  It takes a split second for it to load, play and go from there.  Therefore, switching between media can cause freezing as this memory works to clear itself, reload media and then play it back.

In order to reset the iTouch, you want to hold down the menu button and the power button for ten to twelve seconds.  A slide bar will pop up, asking you to slide it to turn off the power.  Once you do this, it will turn the device completely off.  You then have to hit the power button on top to turn it back on.  This can also be used to turn off the iPhone and reset it as well.

Resetting the iTouch will use up a lot of battery life, but it will fix most problems when it comes to freezing and other issues that may pop up.  If you are experiencing problems with the iTouch, try resetting it to see if it fixes the problem.  If not, then you may want to return the unit for a new one or contact Apple for further troubleshooting.
