How to Travel Cheap - Save Money on Airfare

Here are a few tips to save on the price of your airline tickets.

Quite often you will find that the best deals can be found by going directly to the website of the airline. In some cases you can even sign up with the airline itself and then they will notify you via email of most likely very restricted but insanely cheap specials a few days before the flight

When booking your flight with a traditional travel agent (meaning you walk into an actual building - not online), always specify to the agent that you want the absolute lowest possible fare. Not every agent there will be equally competent or motivated to find the cheapest ticket. They may not be aware of a super low deal the agent in the next cubicle has been selling all week, or the commission may not merit bothering with it much.

Decide the best time to buy your tickets. Your first step on how to travel cheap or at least find relatively inexpensive airfare is to determine the best time to buy your tickets. If you absolutely must get travel on certain dates that are set in stone, buy your ticets at least 21 days in advance.

Keep in mind that prices can vary drastically by airport. For example, consider flying out or of into a nearby city. I often find very different prices if I check prices flying out of Tampa instead of Orlando. That is often the case but if you go too far out of your way don't forget to factor that distance and expense into your overall travel budget.

Don't forget the "budget arlines" such as Airtran, Jetblue, Southwest, Frontier, Independence Air, Spirit, and ATA.

Now you're cookin' with gas! You're on your way to truly learning how to travel cheap.
