Treating Acne Scars

Acne scars can be either deep or merely on the surface but they can be quite a debilitating disorder for those who feel social pressures and perhaps insecurities to do this scaring. This type of scaring is most common on the face but for those who experience acne throughout their body as well, it is possible to experience scaring there as well. Just as with acne, there are different types of scaring as well including ice pick scarring, atrophic scarring, and hypertrophic scarring. Ice pick scars are deep pitted scars with steep ends, Atrophic scaring are pitted as well but not as deep and lastly Hypertrophic scars are most common on the back and chest and are thick scars that sit on top of the skin.

The most successful form of acne scar treatments is of course surgery. Today you will find thousands of people receiving laser treatments on their face and other areas of their body to resurface their skin and remove scaring of many different kinds, including acne scars. The lasers use a high-energy beam of light that focuses on specific structures of the skin. Subcision is another form of acne scar treatment which is mainly used for atrophic scaring. A local anaesthesia is given and a needle is injected under the skin and smoothly moved under the scarring surface to relieve scar tissue.

Chemical peels or chemical resurfacing is a treatment which has been created to improve the complexion of your skin. This can be related to procedures such as a skin graph or microdermabrasion. Although each of these procedures uses a different form of healing and treatment they can all be considered in the same treatment category.

No matter which method of treatment you use for your acne scaring, it is important to be aware just how sensitive your skin will ultimately become. Over exposure to the sun can extremely damage your skin once any of these treatments listed above are carried out. You will more than likely be prescribed special topical creams to help with a speedy recovering of your skin and its reconstruction process, but this does not always work as quickly as you would like.

Each of these treatment options is affordable to a large variety of acne sufferers and is more than worth the investment to improve your self esteem and get rid of the social fears these acne scars have provided you with over the years. Thousands of people live with acne scars, but today you don't have to!
