If you decide that the iPod or iTunes is not the right fit for you, you are going to want to uninstall iTunes.  Before you uninstall the program, make sure to backup your music library in a separate place or import it into your new music software of choice.  Otherwise, iTunes will give you the option to save the files or they will be deleted and gone forever.  If you are not familiar with uninstalling programs often, you may want to move the folder completely on your own before proceeding just in case.

In order to uninstall iTunes, you can do this in one of two ways. First, you can do it via the uninstall link that comes with the installation and is found in the Start Menu folder. Once you click on the uninstall link, you follow the instructions while iTunes does the work for you. It may ask you a few questions, such as whether to delete your folders and profiles. It is up to you if you want to do this, if you plan on importing music into another program, you want to say no to any sort of profile, library or other deletion. When iTunes is finished uninstalling, you want to restart your computer to clear any other iTunes-based data and processes rotating in your system's memory banks.

The other way to uninstall iTunes comes via uninstaller software. If you have a program that manages uninstalls on your system, you open that up and follow the process you would normally do to uninstall a program through it. Uninstaller programs make getting rid of iTunes much easier, because it takes care of all the deep-rooted bits of iTunes hiding in the registry and other places on your computer. Since most computer users are not educated enough to go into their registry and eliminate keys, they may do more harm than good to go in on their own. An uninstaller program helps take care of these keys and other files on the system that the uninstaller leaves behind.

Before you uninstall iTunes, make sure the reasons why are valid.  iTunes is a useful music management software and allows you to do so much more than most music programs out there.  If you have issues, concerns or other problems with iTunes, checking out Apple's website first might be a good start before you start the uninstaller process.
