How to Use DC++
77
If you are thinking about using DC++, it can be a complicated process to get started. It has a unique way of taking part in the filesharing process. It can take some time to learn. Once you have the program installed, you want to read through the manual that came with it before you begin. The first step, once open, is to set up your Settings and what you want to share. Since most hubs require you to share files to gain entrance, you want to set that up so you can begin using the software.
When your settings are complete, you can begin to search for hubs to download from. You can do this via a public list that is preloaded in to the program or you can find your own via a search engine, like Google. Enter the hub, read the rules and register if you feel the need. Depending on the hubs, you may be required to register. If this is the case, follow the instructions and do so. Once registered, you will be able to fully enjoy the benefits of the hub you joined.
You can find files in two ways. Either browser users' file lists or do a search. You can only search based on the rules set up in the hub. You want to be as specific as possible with your search string. You can further break down your search results by limiting them to file type or folders. Once you find what you are looking for, simply right click and choose download. It will then load into your queue, connect to that user and download the file. Depending on your connection speed and the other user's connection speed, this could be very quickly or take awhile.
These are just the basic steps to begin downloading via DC++. There are a lot of nuances to the program and using it to download files. The longer you begin to use it, the more you play with it and take part in the process, the more you will learn how to use it like the back of your hand. DC++ is an excellent way to find files, documents and other media you have your eye on. Just make sure you are downloading legal files, otherwise you might find yourself in a world of legal trouble.
