Using LimeWire is simple.  Once downloaded and your settings are square, you want to connect to the network and begin searching.  You can enter in a search string, limit results to the type and in some cases more specific than that, and find what you are looking for.  Since the search is limited, it may take some time to find exactly what you are looking for.  Since LimeWire is notorious for fake shares and other false files, it may be hit or miss as to finding what you are truly searching for.

Since LimeWire also harbors viruses and Trojans, you want to ensure that every single file you download is scanned by your anti-virus software immediately upon download. You can set up your software to do this or you can do it manually, but if you choose the latter road, do not forget to scan those files and folders. If you choose to ignore this warning, you are inviting your system to get infected and possibly wiped clean.

LimeWire can be used to download basic files as well as torrents. If you do not what a bit torrent file is, chances are you have not been downloading files for long. Bit torrent allows for you to download large files relatively quickly by sharing the load between multiple users. LimeWire now allows for bit torrent downloads as long as you provide the torrent file document for the program to process, seek out and download.

LimeWire can be use to find any type of file, along with downloading torrents.  As long as you are downloading legal files you have the right to have, you are safe.  However, keep in mind that all files you download on LimeWire can be traced back to your IP address and you.  Therefore, if you are engaging in illegal filesharing, you can get caught using a program like LimeWire.
