How Does the Radar Detector Work

What is the intrigue of the radar detector and the police radar gun? How do they really operate? That is a excellent topic and if you are not an electronics master you are not going to understand all the electrical jargon. I will try to explain both of them in the simplest terms possible.

So, first let's talk about the police radar gun and how it works? What is the operation of the police radar gun? So, what does this do? It will send out a radio wave at a certain frequency. This is what is named a transmitter. It also has a reciever in the radar gun so it can pick up the radio wave coming back to the gun. So when the gun sends out the frequency it can tell how fast you are going because your car is going to change the frequency coming back to it to the reciever. This is really about as easy as it gets.

Let's now take a moment and talk about the radar detector. One thing about the radar detector, it can come in a variety of price ranges. If you are looking for a wide range of options like, gps, voice control and many others, then the higher priced models are what you are looking for. Also as you move up in price, you also reduce the amount of false signals.

All the radar detector does it listens for those various frequencies that the radar guns give off and alerts you to the fact by an distinct sound or even a observable display. There are a couple ways that the detector notifies you to the fact that you are being watched. One way is visually with the use of leds or lights. Some of the best radar detectors will even tell you which direction the radar gun is coming from. It could be by a police car beside you, that is how advanced the radar detectors have gotten.

Let's not neglect about the radar jammer. With the radar jammer, this device is going to give off a false or additional radio wave that will interupt the signal going to the radar gun. With this artificial signal the radar gun can't pick up how quick you are moving.

So that is about as basic as I can make it on how a radar gun and a radar detector work. Discover who invented the radar detector?

Do you know who is the person who created the radar detector? Well it all goes back to when the national speed limit was reduced due to the Arab Oil Embargo of the early 1970s, and a forward thinking man named Dale Smith who invented the first radar detector, called the "Fuzzbuster". The name "fuzz buster" became famous. In fact it became so popular, that all radar detectors were known as a "fuzzbuster". Anyone who was around back in the 70's always called the radar detector a "fuzz buster". The word "fuzz buster" became synonymous with the words radar detector.
