If you're like millions of people around the world, you're looking to lose a couple of kilos. The best plan for losing weight is composed of both exercise and proper nutrition. One of the first things you should do is clear your plan with a health professional. After that, you can, by yourself or with others' help, choose the appropriate selection of fat burning foods.

An Overview on How to Burn Fat

What makes fat burning foods important for weight loss? They actually require the body to use up more energy digesting them than it gains from them. You end up with a net energy loss, and to compensate, your body starts looking for other energy sources to fill its needs. Since you've already satisfied your hunger pangs by eating, it starts to burn fat instead.

Fat Burning Foods

Several types of foods can help you burn fat and lower your BMI (Body Mass Index):

Milk, cheese and dairy products.

A diet incorporating 3 to 4 servings of these can help double the rate of fat breakdown and, therefore, the weight that gets shed, for the same amount of calories. Dairy products work several ways to help you lose weight. For one thing, they contain a good amount of calcium, which tells the body to use more fat to power itself. Dairy products also often contain casein, which is a slow-metabolizing protein that helps suppress hunger cravings. Their amino acid content also helps give one a good night's rest, (and the sleeping don't get the urge to raid the fridge for a midnight snack). Low-fat products are the best choice.

Cereal, whole grain food products.

Because of their high fiber content, these foods make you feel full and less likely to eat for a while. A daily portion of these also helps your digestive system function properly and can prevent colorectal cancer.

Fruits and vegetables.

Containing lots of nutrients without lots of calories, these foods also help bulk up your digestive tract with dietary fiber. Several also contain elements which limit the amount of fat absorbed by cells and speed up metabolism. They also have plenty of other beneficial properties, such as containing phytonutrients which help fight various diseases and free radicals. Good for desserts and snacks every day.

Beef, chicken, turkey, venison, egg whites, fish.

These are all sources of lean protein, which is important in maintaining our body's muscle fiber. The rule is simple – the more muscle fiber one has, the higher the metabolic rate. The higher the metabolic rate, the quicker fat gets used and the easier it is to keep off. The serving size should be tailored to your required calorie intake.

To Summarise

As you can see, going on a diet doesn't have to mean putting up with tasteless, featureless food. So eat up. With the right fat-burning foods, you can enjoy a tasty meal and still help yourself lose weight!

Hi Nikoman, I say, I'd give myself (in a scale of 1-10) between 7 to 8 in terms of proper nutrition, but I'd have to double time on the exercise. (Whew)

By the way, I visited your country only last February. I have always been in love with Sydney ( my 3rd time), though I must say since it was my first time to see Melbourne, I also got myself smitten. (haha) Love Chandon Valley.

Had the chance to visit goldcoast, brisbane and Cairns, too. Nice country. Love it!

Oh, glad you enjoyed yourself in Australia. I'm from Sydney but also have family in Brisbane. Hope the weather was good for you... recently we've had a bit of rain.

Glad to hear you on the right track to leading a healthy lifestyle... unlike so many today.

Cheers.
