Homemade Cleaners???

Well everyday I hear people talking about making their own green cleaners at home...mmm good idea??? Not so sure on that front.  Most homemade cleaners are made with Borax, Salt etc. both of these chemicals are mined, which to me means big trucks, big holes, lose of habitat for animals and lose of green space.  I have tried to figure out the carbon footprint that these product amount to but I can find no data on how the mining of Borax or Salt (whether by evaporation or pit mining) actually equals.  I took a tour of the web and found some nasty pictures of both Borax mines and salt mines but as to environmental date very little if any.  True some homemade cleaners are not to bad like Vinegar, lemon juice, bleach etc but I've tried may of them and they just don't seem to work that well and they cost me more in effort and wasted time having to clean things twice...twice the water used in rinsing, twice the electricity cost in lighting, twice my frustration.  I don't buy natural cleaners in the stores either.....never sure if I should trust those slick 'GREEN' labels.  I always wonder how green they really are. Personally I use Shaklee(yes a small plug but if you've never tried them you might want to give it a go) They do work the first time, they are carbon neutral, safe for the home and your heath, and they save me lots of money. So people  say they cost to much because you have to order them through the mail however one bottle say made into window cleaner make over 5000 bottles of the stuff and at 3$ on average for store bought stuff that's a pretty penny.

Anyway know you know what I use and I would love to hear your thoughts on how damaging Borax, Salt mining really are.

Stay Green!
