72What is fiberglass?
Fiberglass is a composite material used in the automotive industry. Its used to build cars and many parts of their structure. It can also be used to create some pretty sick looking interiors, as long as you have a creative mind, the possabilities are endless.
You will need:
- Sandpaper- get a variety from rough to very light from 100 grit to 400 grit
- Paintbrush- nothing fancy and NO FOAM BRUSHES they melt with resin
- Fiberglass resin- depending on how big the surface is will determine how much you need
- A fiberglass material of your choosing mat, cloth, or tissue
- Bondo
- Some type of cleaner that doesn't leave oil.
- Gloves- that you dont mind throwing away
- A small roller- to roll out the bubbles in the fiberglass

Instructions
- First before anything you want to prep the surface. this can be done with a cleaning cloth and any kind of cleaner that doesn't leave an oily surface.Make sure you rid the surface of most or any oil. your fingertips can put large amounts of oil on the surface so try not to touch it without gloves during the process.
- Next you need to scratch the surface with a light grit sandpaper. This just ensures that the fiberglass will bond easier to the surface.
- Repeat step one and clean the surface again.
- Cut out squares of the fiberglass material of your choice. I have learned that tearing the material with your fingers helps bond better than cutting it with scissors.
- Put on gloves that you don't mind throwing away. Mix your resin with the hardener. place your cut out pieces of material on the surface and dab resin over the top of each piece with a paint brush as you lay it down. Make sure to cover each piece very well. A piece that wasn't properly covered could cause problems in the long run. It could chip or pull away from the surface. It is best to do two layers of material on the surface its makes the material stronger to wear and tear.
- Now you need to use your roller and roll out all the bubble that may be hiding under the fiberglass. this will ensure that your fiberglass is in contact with all parts of the surface. rolling it gives it a longer life and causes it not to chip or pill away.
- After covering the entire surface with material and resin and rolling out all your bubbles let it all dry depending on the temperature it usually takes 30 minutes to an hour to dry.
- Now mix your bondo with its hardener. Cover the surface with the bondo. make sure you work fast bondo has a tendency to harden pretty quick.
- Let the bondo dry, After about 30 minutes to an hour sand the surface to a smooth finish. Start with a rougher sandpaper the move down as needed. If you still have spots that don't match up repeat the bondo process until they do.
- After its smooth primer it. let it dry. wet sand with a very light sandpaper then paint.
