How to really build wealth

If you want to learn to get rich, you must follow the habits that truly rich people follow in order to do so.

By the way, getting a good paying job or career doesn't necessarily have anything to do with wealth if all someone does is pay larger bills and lives from paycheck to paycheck, which many do.

This is why many people quietly go about building wealth without any big hoopla and attempts to draw attention to themselves; they just daily repeat their wealth building formula and get rich over a period of time.

One proven example of this is doctors, who overall may seem to be rich, but in reality they have good income, but because they're pressured and expected to live a certain lifestyle, they will also live from paycheck to paycheck and not really have wealth, in the sense of building up a solid cash base and financial foundation.

Sure, they, like other professionals, will have the nice house, etc., but they just live above the mortgage and numerous bills, and barely live above their means. Surprisingly, many of them struggle as deeply as others that bring in smaller paychecks.

There's a huge difference between building wealth and becoming rich, than having a high income. Income does not equal wealth, it's what you do with it that counts, and what you're able and willing to fore-go to get there.

Here's how the truly rich go about building their wealth while living the lives they want:

Live below their means

It doesn't matter how much money you make, if you're not living below your means, you're never going to build wealth and reach your financial goals; it just can't happen.

This is extremely simple: all you have to do is spend less than you earn and invest the difference. Be disciplined with this over a number of years and you will build significant wealth.

Deferred Gratification

This is the one very few people are willing to pay. If you have the mentality and practice of having to have something now, then you will never be a candidate to become rich or build up significant wealth.

Every time you buy a must-need item, you're taking away money and time that can work for you. The rich have the discipline it takes to defer gratification, and they don't mind waiting in order to build wealth that will last.

Practices and habits of the wealthy

Never pay full price

A common practice with the wealthy is to never pay full price for something. They are always buying off season in order to get their deals, and you'll see them in the fan aisles of a store in the fall and the heater aisles of a store in the spring.

This is the same with other items like clothing, furniture, and many other such products.

Know when to buy quality

On the other hand, when the wealthy do pay full price, they do it knowing the product they buy will last many years. One of these practices and products is with quality, well-fitting shoes.

The wealthy know that this is a good investment that will last for years and give them great comfort, so they count up all the costs are more than willing to pay it, as the extra cost is really cheaper considering the years of wear they get out of them.

This is done with other targeted items as well.

Rich pay with cash not credit

While part of their wealth management and building up of their private wealth will include a credit card or two, they are only used for emergencies or backup, and will always pay with cash, or if they use a card for convenience, will never allow it to incur interest, as they'll pay it before it is able to.

Again, the rich are disciplined, and they wouldn't think of using a credit card in a way that would add large interest to their bill.

This practice of paying only with cash is also part of their financial wealth strategy, as it helps to keep them under discipline because they can see how quickly their supply can run out if they over spend.

Investing the difference

Now none of this would be of any value at all if all the wealth planning stopped there. The secret is they take the available cash from being frugal and invest the difference.

This may not sound like a great wealth secret, yet this is the way the rich get rich; and even people of very modest means build up large deposits of wealth from following these principles and practices.

If you're an hourly employee or salaried, don't assume that will build wealth for you, it never will. This is the reason there are so many misconceptions about the wealthy and what is considered the regular working guy or gal.

The assumption is somehow they're doing something illegal or evil to make their money, when in fact its nothing but discipline, a long term outlook, living within their means and investing in a way that builds wealth over a period of years.

It takes multiple streams of income to get wealthy; no paycheck will get you there, unless you practice these things and invest.

Get rich quick doesn't work

The key in all of this is the long term outlook. While get rich quick schemes have been, and will always be around, because people simply want everything today. But in building wealth that will do more harm than good, and will keep the vast majority of people from attaining their dreams.

You may say you've heard about people that got rich quickly, and you would be correct, but it's few and far between, and those that do simply have the timing in many cases on their side, and it's usually more luck in that sense, than anything else.

That doesn't mean they didn't set themselves up for that success, just that the time frame it was accomplished in was luck, not attaining their wealth.

Follow the steps above and remain consistent over a period of time and you'll see your personal wealth grow and take your place as one of the truly rich. Just don't think in terms of becoming super rich, that's a completely different ball game that most people should simply steer away from.

What the rich own

Those that are rich in the way I'm talking about here, are those that also aren't interesting in buying really expensive, new toys for themselves. They buy things like cars that are used for a year or two, and get them in prime shape, as they've been broken in and the bugs are all out of them.

They don't attempt to get the extremely expensive houses either, as they're content to live in a solid, good house that will appreciate over the years and they'll own outright.

Again, we're dealing with a mentality, discipline and way of life that is contrary to what most people think of the rich as living. Take this advice and these tips and you can live a life of contentment and wealth without the trappings of debt that come with outrageous living and lifestyles.
