The key to learning how to hypnotize people requires two items. First, understanding hypnosis, what it is and is not. Two, is learning first how to hypnotize yourself before other people. Here is an introduction to both. There are two parts of your mind. One is your conscious mind, which is in charge of your conscious thoughts and actions. This is the part we actively control. The second part is our subconscious, which controls everything else. Nearly 90% of our brain power is controlled by the subconscious. Hypnosis is training the subconscious mind to carry out a new or improved action or thought instead of an old one. Thoughts and actions which took our subconscious years to develop can be changed quite effectively and quickly using hypnosis. Many times hypnosis does not need to change anything, merely provide a different choice. For example, being afraid of heights and being petrified to walk a tightrope between two very tall buildings is useful. Alternatively, being petrified to be on the fortieth floor is not. Acrophobics (people with a phobia of heights) do not have a choice of when and how being afraid is appropriate. Now, lets hypnotize ourselves. Hypnosis requires practice so don't worry if at first you struggle. Even if you simply pretend at first, you will catch on quite quickly. Take several very slow very deep breaths. Breath in through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. Feel yourself get fully relax with each breath. See yourself standing at the top of ten marble stairs. Proceed down the first step. As you do, breathe very deeply and release it slowly feeling all stress leaving your body as you exhale. Continue this for every step until reaching the bottom at ten steps. At the bottom of the stairs you enter a well lit grey room, with a comfortable chair. Sit down in the chair and relax even more. Take a moment and enjoy the relaxation you feel in the chair. Now, step out of your body, leaving part of you in complete comfort in the chair. You can now notice a door that appears leading from the room. As you pass through the door, you are standing in a clearing beside a small woodland stream. You see a large smooth rock covered with moss beside the brook. After sitting down on the rock, you notice it appears that the sun is gently shining on you and the rock, isolating the rest of the world. Listen to the gentle burble of the creek. Now realize that with each very slow deep breath you take, you can relax even more. Now, step out of yourself sitting on the rock, leaving part of you to enjoy the serenity of nature. Now find this new part of you standing in an empty room. The room is completely peaceful and empty. Nothing to cause stress or anxiety, just totally at ease. You now begin to understand that this room is inside your mind. This is where relaxation happens. This is what it feels like to be completely relaxed without a worry in the world. Every distraction is left outside. Notice how easy it is to control your thought in this room. Any single thought you have is manifested on the walls. Now make a fist with your left hand wrapping your four fingers around your thumb and squeeze gently. Squeezing your thumb has mapped this location in your mind. Now anytime you would like to relax and focus on one thing, all you have to do is squeeze your thumb to return to this magic room. Now leave the room, step back into yourself at the rock. Return to the chair and step back into yourself in the chair, and find yourself back in the here and now feeling awake and completely refreshed.
