An erection of a penis has a lot to do with the release of nitric oxide. This is a chemical that is usually released as a response to some kind of sexual stimulation. The corpus cavernosum of the penis is the place where this occurs. Nitric oxide activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase that then increases the levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate. This produces a response referred to as smooth-muscle relaxation in the corpus cavernosum regulates the inflow of blood thru this area.

There are three types of muscles: smooth, cardiac, and striated. The Smooth muscles are those that are found in internal organs. VIAGRA (sildenafil citrate) has no direct relaxing effect on the human corpus cavernosum. Instead, VIAGRA sildenafil enhances and intensifies the effects of the nitric oxide by way of inhibiting phosphodiesterase type 5 which is directly responsible for degradation of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum. All of this causes the penis to become more relaxed. When sexually stimulated, it causes a release of NO, sildenafil inhibits PDE5, which, in turn, increases levels of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum. This entire process causes the repeated smooth-muscle relaxation which allows for the inflow of blood to the corpus cavernosum. Producing the erection of the penis is then accomplished. It is worth noting that VIAGRA has no penile erection abilities when it has not been stimulated to begin this entire process.

This is how VIAGRA works technically, but how does it work in laymen’s terms? Basically and simply put, VIAGRA stimulates an increased blood flow to the penis to make it a harder and more sustainable erection. It is the Smooth muscles that are relaxed to the point of being flaccid that allows the increased blood flow to have the effect of more pressure in the area of the Smooth Muscles. The Erection is then one that can be effortlessly maintained and able to hold up to penetration before and after it is inserted.

The process explained here is for those healthy men who have no other men who have no other medical conditions that might interfere with it. There are however, problems with this process if there is the presence of other medical condition for which medication is being used. Medications such as those that contain Nitrates are the most important to mention. Nitrates carry the same blood pressure lowering agents that VIAGRA does and can sink blood pressure levels to dangerous lows. For this reason they should not be used with this drug. Be sure that you do not have medications in your system that may contain this agent if you are planning to use VIAGRA. Serious complications with the process talked about will occur and the desired results may not be achieved. Learn how to safely use VIAGRA so that the process will work as described above and you will benefit from the drug the intended outcomes. The Smooth muscles will respond accordingly if this drug is used as directed.
