I wonder who invented Lawn Gnomes?

I have always loved Lawn Gnomes (Or Garden Gnomes as they are called in UK), but often wondered who invented them, and where they originated from, do they really have anything to do with papa smurf, or the dwarfs of legend?

I decided to do some research to find out-the origins of Garden gnomes!!

I found this great Gnome Photo.

Garden Gnome arrives in England!!

Ha Haa!! I have found out that early in the nineteenth century, in Graeferoda, Thuringa, Germany, century the first garden gnome was made. I don't know why a garden gnome was first built, but it is believed that it would be used to help scare off animals from getting into a garden and wrecking plants.

In the 1840s the Sir Charles Isham estate in England used a garden gnome. This was (allegedly) the first instance of a garden gnome in the United Kingdom.

I guess there really are lots of us who believe these little folk might really be here among us.
