How is it diagnosed

  •  It starts with a little stiffness in your knee. Nothing to worry about, then you notice the pain is getting worse, hurts when you walk or jog. Perhaps there’s a bit of morning stiffness in your hip. You have to do something about this, visit your doctor. So many questions arise when we are in pain. The little Greek translation of the word is osteo(of the bone) arthro(joint) and its inflammation. Arthritis formerly named as “degenerative joint disease” is not one disease, but a group of diseases who cause pain, inflammation and limited movement of the joints. In a joint, the cartilage that covers and cushions the ends of the bones degenerates, allowing bones to rub together. The surgery can be very painful and not permanent strategy.
  • 2% of people under the age of 45 get affected and 30% of age group from 45 and 64 and 85% above the age of 64 get affected with osteoarthritis. Statistics say men are more likely to suffer from osteoarthritis than women upto the age of 45.
  • Osteoarthritis is Not Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Since both the names are somewhat similar, it is not the same disease. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an immune-system disorder that can lead to weakness, fatigue, fever, anemia and other problems including inflamed joints. Immune system disorder is one where the body attacks its own tissues, as if they were foreign invaders. It occurs at ages between 25 and 50, comes and goes without warning. Also affects joints of the wrists, knuckles, shoulders.
