How I got hubber slapped and what I learned today
52First, I am a hubpages newbie. I came here from another forum where everyday someone is trying to sell me something in my face. When you see stuff like that you realize why 99% fail with their online businesses. Of course I have another theory why people fail in online businesses but that's another story.
Anyways, in my day job I am a professional accountant working in the radio business. I have a bit of an edge to me because I have a reputation for thinking I am always right. The problem is I am almost always right because I know the difference between fact and opinion. I am not saying this is a good quality and I am working on learning how to deal with those who are wrong :)
So I discover hubpages. I think wow this looks like a great place to explore hidden creative juices and to meet others. No one here is trying to sell me the "latest must have never seen before solve all your financial problems ebook of the century" that can be picked up right now before the offer expires in 2 hours and 37 seconds. Of course if they threw in a free hair growing product as a bonus inducement, then I would definitely be induced.
I read some hubpages, check out the forums, read the FAQ, read the rules, re-read the forums and then made the colossal mistake in thinking I can promote my hubpages in the forums as long as I am not promoting one of the products mentioned above. It does not take long before I am accused of being a spammer and effectively get hubber slapped.
Of course, since in my day job I am use to being in charge and the idea of being accused of such a heinous crime would immediately cause me to go on the offensive, I went on the offensive. The difference here in the online world verses the real world is that I cannot let the air out of someone's tires if they do not agree with me.
Getting hubber slapped can be quite painful for someone who thinks they are always right. I took it as an insult, ready to fight, and of course convince the accuser I am not a spammer.
So who is this incredibly brave accuser. Well considering they have a hubscore near perfection and they are doing a thankless job I won't mention names. I could make fun of his/her name though. I could even make up a few degrading names that rhyme with theirs. But that would be counter productive.
So I have learned my lesson, eaten the proverbial crow, and discovered another universal fact:
DO NOT PROMOTE YOUR HUBPAGES IN THE FORUMS

Yes, the hub pages community is a bit quirky, and has some strictish rules.
But the moderators are very accessible and fair, and are always fine tuning things to improve the community.
It can take a bit of getting your head around, but it's worth it.
You'll soon get the hang of it, and I'm glad you survived the Misha slapping. (And you'd have to be very creative to come up with a name that he hasn't already been called.
And wait till you encounter Mr. Knowles. I'm sure that you and he will get on very well together :)
There's lots of spammy posts pop up here, because all the GuruWankers recommend that people "post their opportunities" onto hub pages for valuable backlinks. They don't usually last long - and some of the best threads on HubPages are in response to these posts.
And as for posting links to your own hubs in the forums - It's OK if the link is directly relevant to some issue that is under discussion.
From your photo, looks like you lead with your chin :)
I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun here.
The pic was the advice of my wardrobe consultant. She told me that since I did not have a very good wardrobe stick with a face pic.
I'm surprised that your wardrobe consultant didn't tell you that good photos of wardrobes are readily available on the net.
LOL you can call me any names you want, I grown a thick skin during all my years online :)
I'm really glad you made a decision to stay, cause you are posting some interesting reading over here and overall seem to be a pretty decent guy. :)
I am glad I decided to stay as well.
Sometimes I forget the rule I use in business, if I am angry about something wait till I cool off before I respond.
Now let's see, what rhymes with Misha........
Fisher,
Squisher
Kisser
Pisser
Wisher
and, of course,
Militia
Oops, I didn't know you weren't supposed to promote your hubs in the forums. Luckily you've already taken the flak for it, and now I know I'll make sure I don't do it. Thanks for the information.
No problem, I had to learn the hard way :)
Well, I'm sorry you got into trouble, but I did enjoy your style in telling about it! As a person who is often wrong, I appreciate you saving me from doing a wrong thing!
pfuller: ouch! I suffer from the same malady, although I think there may be the possibility that I'm <not> always right, I just believe I am! On the other hand you probably are always right :) Happy to see you're sticking with it, I really like it here a lot, I don't know how I would have reacted if I had been hub-slapped within the first couple of days of joining up. (As opposed to a few weeks later.) Happy hubbing! Thanks for the useful information. I thought there was the possibility that we weren't supposed to link our stuff in forums so I just avoided it by principle. (I like to avoid trouble even if I don't know it's trouble.)
... I hope you don't mind my saying, but you are absolutely hilarious.
Dry humor is the best. I'm off to browse your other hubs. :)
