Praise and blame are much the same for the writer. One is better for your vanity, but neither gets you much further with your work.

Only connect!

I used to know a joke about alguien que tenia enchufe, but I can't remember it now. . . why is it that the passion for writing is overpowering only until one needs to pee?

Cris- Another great hub. "Better to write for yourself and have no public, than write for the public and have no self." I wonder this statement how it would fit for some of the "Mesothelioma" hubs written for SEO....LOL

Those are some great lines from some of my favorites. I liked the Calvino one, as he's one of those who's work inspires me. As previously stated, laid out perferctly.

Cris,

Wonderful Idea! That explains why John Grisham only writes lawyer stories. The last dose I had from him was "the testament." That also explains the addiction. Gosh, I feel like an author! ;) wink

I Like the last one by Gao Xingion..."Writing eases my suffering. When you use words, you're able to keep your mind alive. Writing is my way of reaffirming my own existance"...Seems to explain it all..Nice hub and thanks my dear...G-Ma :o) Hugs & Peace

The one that made me chuckle was the one about writing because no one writes anything you want to read.

"Chortle-snort!"

Thankfully, tis not true on HubPages.

Russ - indeed, some of these quotes really make one who writes feel grounded but at the same time rejoice at being a writer! :D

goldentoad: i have yet to make a hub that wouldn't sit well with you, which is actually a very good thing because i don't think i'd survive a rant from you! LOL of course i kid you! (wink) and thanks for noticing the layout, i'm getting the hang of editing and such. thanks :D

sheena - we all know what he meant by that! though I for one would keep on trying to expand my horizon. Having said that, I think i'd try my hands at a religious hub! LOL that would be the day! thanks for rushing over :D

G-Ma,

I hope that in my little way I was able to return the inspiration that you keep on giving out with your hubs. And I would have said what Gao Xingjian said if he hadn't already! LOL Thanks for the hugs, here's a bearhug for you! :D

Constant Walker,

apparently Mr Larkin didn't live long enough to join HubPages! And besides we have to thank the Requests feature for that - if you can't write it have somebody write it for you!

btw, tried the ice cream first in the cup, and didn't stir. there's a difference alright! twas like having a good finish - like getting at the choco inside a hard candy. let's raise a good cup to that! :D

Really!? I'll have to try that... but I have to stir in the brown sugar, or else it'll just lay on the bottom.

Hmm... A conundrum!

Cris A profile image

Cris A  says:

Ahh Constant Walker, the things that boggle your mind! LOL That was your technique I described, putting in the ice cream first. While my way on the other hand (also w/out stiring) allows you to savor first the froth of the ice cream before you plunge headlong into the deep dark coffee! :D

"I wasn't born until I started to write"...I love it. It reminds me of when I stopped my writing for a few years. I lost myself during that time and had no way to express myself. Since I have started writing again, I can feel myself shining more and I am reborn :) Thank you for collecting all the beautiful quotes.

It's my pleasure Ardie. And I must hasten to add that I'm glad that you found your way back into writing and be a blessing to others with your hubs :D

Oh!  I put the ice cream into the bottom of the cup, pour in the coffee, then stir in brown sugar and creamer.

OKay, but next time try to put the ice cream last and don't stir! like a coffee float if you will.

I agree, a smart ass is a pain in the ass! so i smother the urge to be one LOL

btw, have you heard of barako? it's a locally grown coffee variety that gives a mighty kick in the gut

I enjoyed this a great deal Cris. If I had to pick just one, it would probably be: "Many suffer from the incurable disease of writing, and it becomes chronic in their sick minds." :D

Writing is incurable and chronic...the more you do it, the more you want to do it, and even when you're not able to do it, you're thinking about doing it. lol! ;)

Nice job Cris. I don't know how you manage to take a topic like this and narrow it down to the best, but you do it well. I'd be stuck for days on end trying to narrow the possibilities to just a handful. :)

Hey chris. nice collection of quotes. I think Horace made a great point and have some things put away that are at least 20 years old. They'll probably be there another 20 too. The hurrier I go the behinder I get! I forget that soometimes. I must slow down before publishing.

Let it be kept till the ninth year, the manuscript put away at home: you may destroy whatever you haven't published; once out, what you've said can't be stopped.Horace (65 - 8 BC) Roman poet

Hey C

I'm sure they're great basing on what I have read from you thus far! Why don't you go over them and edit and then publish? One at a time. No need to hurry as haste makes waste or libel! LOL :D
