My Hubpages Experience
87How I came to be a Hubber
I have been an active member on Squidoo since January 2007. I had heard about Hubpages from various lensmasters while posting in the SquidU forums. Two lensmasters in particular, Glen (darkside) and Relache, really sparked my interest in Hubpages. Both of them are top notch lensmasters on Squidoo, so when I heard they had very good things to say about Hubpages, I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about. I joined Hubpages on August 24, 2007.
Once on Hubpages, I quickly realized that there were differences between the two sites. I suddenly found myself in unfamiliar territory. Sometimes it is difficult to adjust your way of thinking when you are used to one thing and then faced with totally different environment. Therefore, I registered, started a Hub and then left.
Fast forward to July 2008. I am back again. This time I am here to stay. I am not exactly sure what prompted me to start on Hubpages again. I think it may have been Squidoo burnout to some degree. Squidoo is still a terrific site, however, sometimes you just need a change. I am still very active over there, but now I am here as well. Since I write online to earn an income, I like that I am even more diversified now that I have added Hubpages to the mix. Between Squidoo, Hubpages and my self-hosted blogs, I am finally on my way to earning a full-time at home income. I am averaging about $100/day now. It has taken me about 2 1/2 years to get to this point. Now that I am here, it feels great.

Making Money at Home with Hubpages & Squidoo
I am very happy with how things are progressing on Hubpages in terms of income potential. I am earning more money each month which is great. It is nice to see the uptrend. I have found that Hubpages, like Squidoo, takes time, patience and hard work, but you can get there.
On Squidoo, I have set up a lens to track my earnings. I originally set up this lens to inspire new lensmasters to stick with it even if they didn't see the income immediately and also to recruit stay at home moms like myself looking to make some money at home. When I created my Work at Home with Squidoo lens, I had no idea it would become as popular as it has. Currently, it is ranked # 1 overall.
I have decided to try something similar over on Hubpages. I am going to use this Hub to record my monthly earnings from Hubpages. This will help me keep track of my progress and hopefully prove to newer Hubbers that it can be done. One of the most asked questions I see posted in the Hubpages forums is, "How long does it take to earn money on Hubpages?"

My Journey to Earning a $1,000/month on Hubpages
As you can see, I am nowhere near that figure! However, I believe it is an achievable income if I continue working on and creating Hubs.
My goal is to reach a $1,000 a month income by December 2010. Will I make it?
I will be posting my Hubpages earnings on a monthly basis, so check back frequently to see how close I am getting.
November Earnings Note:
My monthly earnings took a slight hit in November due to Ebay's new QCP program. Under this new program, my pages have been making slightly less with Ebay sales than they had been in the past. This is just a minor setback. I am still hoping to meet my goal by next December.

Congratulations Janet! That Squidoo Lens is great. A lot of really good information and tracking your earnings like that is brilliant.
Btw, do you make money from your initial image site? or have you stopped doing that since you are making so much from the other places?
Ever tempted to just post your stuff on your own website? :)
@HupChallenge: Thanks for the vote of confidence! :)
@shibashake: Thanks for the comment! My image hosting site was a project that my husband and I created years ago. It really never took off, but we are too emotionally attached to let it go. We still get photo uploads daily and it makes some $ with adsense. The hosting is basically free since I host it on the same site as my blogs. So, we just leave it be waiting for our big break!
Since I am a big believer in online diversification, I like writing on Hubpages & Squidoo. I think having my eggs in many baskets is the best way to go. Plus, most of my online writing falls in a few niches, so I do A LOT of cross-promotion between my pages. Works like a charm. :)
$1000 a month? I wish.
Somehow I get the feeling I'll be lucky to make $100 month.
Ah well. There's worst things that could not happen in life. :)
@kblover: You have to think positively! When I started on Squidoo, I never imagined I would be making 1,000/month. But, here I am doing it. So, I see no reason why the same can't be done on Hubpages. I believe this site has the same earnings potential. But, time will tell. See ya in Dec 2010! :)
If you can do it on Squidoo there's no doubt it won't happen on hubpages for you too! Good Luck and Glad you came back!
Reading this hub makes me realize how much I need to learn--I'd never even heard of Squidoo, and need to go check it out.
You're very inspiring--thanks so much for creating this hub, and good luck with your goals!!!:)
@Dottie1: Thanks, I hope I make it!
@TamCor: You should check out Squidoo. It is a great site with nice earnings potential.
Hi Janet, if you believe you can, I believe you can do it! :-) It would be pretty neat to earn $1,000 a month wouldn't it? I think I need all the help I can get to get to that goal. LOL Good luck and glad you are here on hubpages. :-) See you around.
Good job on this hub.
@ripplemaker & Trekkiemelissa: Thanks for stopping by!
You will make it janet
Good luck with your goal of reaching $1000/month. Just for reference, it may be worth including a referral tracker in all your links to earn a bit more, especially if someone signs up. If my even be worth including a link at the bottom saying 'You can sign up here' along with your referral tracker just to earn a bit more from people signing up (this may be a useful page for people who are just signing up). Hope you take this as it was meant to be and that is friendly advice :).
@aniketgore: Thanks!
@BristolBoy: I always use my referral link, but for some reason forgot to add it on this page! Thanks for the little reminder. :)
After 3 months and 50 hubs I'm earning about 3 dollars a month from hubs - I need to go back and improve keywords. I think that you will achive your goal - and you have inspired me.
Congratulations on many a nice sum over at squidoo. I am sure you will have equal success here.
I have the figure of hoping to earn $35 per day online. This would mean that I would be able to cut down on the shifts I do at work. Once I reach this goal, I will then aim higher to $50 per day, $100 per day etc. Onwards and upwards.
Wow Janet you are taking over Hubpages too - good for you. People love this stuff and sharing your numbers gives people a look into what you can really earn instead of the unknown. Looks good - Cha Ching!!!
You will do it Janet. You have found the key, and just keep doing it well. I support you.
Awesome job Janet! If anyone will make $1000/month here, it's you. I'm not earning that much here yet, it's going to take me some time to figure that out. It took forever to master Squidoo, so I'm not expecting this to be a cakewalk (no pun intended). Good luck!
Janet, I have a feeling you're gonna make it, gurl! And even if you don't, the fact that you're trying is half the battle won.
I hope you can get it because you are no 1 on squidoo
Thanks again everyone! $325 for June. I am getting there. :)
How you are getting? reveal the secret..
Very impressive. Just wondering why you removed Adsense after February 09 whne it seemed to be doing so well? when
@hubber-2009. There really is no secret here. But, here are my top three tips:
1. Write about topics you are passionate about.
2. Build a series of hubs around your chosen topics to create a niche; become an expert.
3. Have each hub contain a product or group of products related to your hub that someone visiting your hub would be looking for.
Hope this helps!
@April Simons: I didn't stop Adsense in Feb 09. As you can see I received an adsense check in June 09. It just took me a few months to build up the minimum amount of $100 required to get paid. Now, I can comfortably say that between Hubpages and my blogs, I should reach the minimum every month. :)
Thanks, that explains it. Just by sheer coincidence I find myself back on your hub again, I wasn't even looking for your hub.
Janet, I was reading your squidoo. I just signed up, but have been with Hub for about a month. Can you tell me exactly, and I mean in english, how you are making the money? Those are wonderful figures. If I can make that much I will stop worrying about paying the bills.
Thanks
@sharongail: It just takes time, patience and hard work. I began my Internet endeavors in Jan 07, so I have been at this for over 2 1/2 years. It is not like it was an overnight success by any means! LOL! As I have stated, I strongly suggest selecting niche topics and creating many hubs (or lenses) around the chosen topic. I do much better with the pages I write within my niche than I do with random topics I write about. Good Luck!
Thanks for the hub, it's really inspiring and motivating to see this exponential growth!
Thanks for sharing this. I have read it several times for inspiration and motivation.
Thanks Lain and Kidgas. :)
I will be posting my July earnings shortly. Let's see if I can beat June's figures!
Great hub Janet :) Glad to see you doing so well here too.
Great Hub, and To say The Truth I got inspired by your Lens. I was an skeptical.. thanks to you, now I am a firm believer. I was making a little bit of money by blogging, But I decided to give it a try at both hubpages & squidoo, they were free, so there wasnt anything to lose right? Mixing both site, with article writing I think the process can be easier. Another tip for everyone, The goal(s) you set for yourself has to be a reachable one. For example, Set a goal to make your first online income at... whatever amount you want to, a dollar, $10 and work hard to get it in a given period of time. Read a lot of seo and keyword research, get your affiliations, set your adsense and go for it! once you got it, set a new higher goal!
Janet, I am confident you will get your goal and once there, I am sure you will also set a new goal in money and time terms!
gratz and keep going on!
July's earnings posted. I made a bit less than June, but not too bad.
I like your blog. I hope your wishes will come true.
Great article! I can here as another place to publish, but will definitely see if I can do more than planned now! Thanks for the info!
Cheers,
James
Great hub. I hope to be as active in this community. I wrote my first hub and I already feel burned out LOL That's because I'm doing a lot of other things. I'm thinking one hub page per week is enough to keep me sane. :)
@javanz3d: Hubpages is definitely a good place to publish and earn some cash.
@reviyve: One hub per week is great. It is more than I am able to do! As they say, slow and steady wins the race. ;)
Good luck to both of you!
thanks @Janet21 I just finished #2. I joined the 30 day challenge. seems like i'm dong that a lot these days. i joined another 30 days challenge and now i'm 4 days behind!
keep going you'll make it!
Just posted my August earnings. My best month yet! Almost half way there. :)
At the rate you are going, I think you will exceed your goal by two or three times of what you are hoping for on Hubpages alone. I would wish you luck, but I don't think you will need it. So, I'll say "Congrats." :-)
SEOGuy29: Thanks for the vote of confidence. :)
That video was hilarious :) Good luck!
@hubAnswers: I know. I love that video! :)
I followed you here from your Squidoo lens. Good job! It's wonderful how motivated you are - setting goals, etc. You're just about halfway to your goal on Hub and it's truly inspiring!
Hi
I tried a couple of squidoo lenses and just didn't really get on with it. Not sure what it was, but it didn't feel right, it felt alien.
I too joined HP, wrote a couple of hubs then kind of left and then wrote a few more, but nothing really until an epiphany moment (OK, a peek at my adsense account) made me realise that I'd been stupid and that I should have been writing a hub a day for the past 3 years, it isn't really that difficult - especially as it's so easy to pop back in and change things any time you want. I think what put me off in the early days was browser issues with the technology, but I've changed browsers just for building hubs now and only get those issues if I forget and come here in IE.
Well done, I'm sure you'll have reached the $1000/month by the end of January 2010. I've kind of got my own mental marker to have 1000 hubs by the end of 2012 and for those to be generating ... well, enough.
I feel the same way that you do, about spreading the risk out across sites. If you don't own something you aren't in control; on the other hand, owning something brings a different set of problems... so risk spreading is the way to go!
Good luck!
Thank you for this- It really helps a newbie like myself
This is a super good hub.
Nice hub good luck with your 1,000 a month goal. I voted yes.
Congrats on your success!
