Life's a hub

Hubpages Versus Squidoo

For an Experiment I decided to publish a Lens on Squidoo yesterday morning and i was surprised at how difficult it was compared to hubpages.

Ok creating an account was easy but when it came to creating a lens as they call it it becomes a bit more complicated, first of all you are asked to name your lens so i did ,I named it jimmythejock, then you are asked to say what your lens will be about so i wrote that my lens would be about Las vegas hotels and casino's.now my lens was called jimmythejock there was no mention of las vegas on the lens after i wrote what the hub was about but the ads on the page were all about las vegas.

next you write in your story or what ever you want to write ,so i did this and then submitted my lens ,then there are the options to add other lenses ,digg, yahoo, ebay amazon, this all gets a bit confusing as i didn't have a clue what each of these lenses did so i ticked all of those lens boxes and saved and looked at my page there was nothing there but my story,i decided to try again went into edit and went through the different lenses, now call me stupid but with no help options on each of these lenses i wasnt able to set them up,i honestly didnt have a clue.

ok so i submitted my story and i clicked on my stats my lens was ranked 49773 even though there was only 47499 lenses published ,the numbers dont work out.

so jimmy i said lets see if i can find my lens , so i went to the Squidoo home page with intentions of clicking on new lenses, no such option.

i did a search for las vegas plenty options there but i would have to trawl through over 100 pages to find my story,i guess it wont be in the top 100 lenses either since i only just published it,oh and if i want to know how well my story is doing i will have to wait a week before i find out if my lens has moved up the ranks.

If i cant find my own lens what chance has it got if no one else can find it i will be the only person who knows where it is my poor little lens never to be read by anyone but myself.

Hubpages in contrast is a far superior set up you can publish a hub in under 2 minutes if you have prepared in advance, you dont need to set anything up digg, reddit, adsense ,ebay or amazon as it is all done for you on hubpages.

you know how your hub is doing within 10 minutes of publishing, you dont have to wait 24 hours to see how many people have viewed your hub,new hubs can be seen from the main page, you can check your ad revenue at any time and best of all you can add as many pictures or videos as you want.

Hubpages blows Squidoo out of the water Squidoo turned out to be a bit of a damp squid

have fun.....jimmy

I find squidoo to be harder to use too... but I'm still trying to figure out the concept of creating a new hubpage for every article. I have a whole 1.29 in squidoo account lol *whirls finger in air* and that's about the only excitement I've gotten from it.

thanks mk i think that the main point squidoo should consider is to have a page for new lenses so that the users are getting an instant readership.....jimmy

It's a shame that you would rate Squidoo after making just one lens. I prefer to reserve judgement on something after I learn all the ins and outs. I don't let my lack of understanding formulate a premature opinion.

I started at Squidoo and have come to Hubpages to figure out how to add another iron to the fire. Sure it's different, but that doesn't make it any better or worse. Just different.

I had 400+ lenses at Squidoo before I started here. I'm taking notes as I go along. I'll be publishing a hub (or three) on it, but not before I've given this machine a good going over and figuring out the how's, why's, when's, what's and where's.

Stop by and read http://www.squidoo.com/why (Why Squidoo?) and http://www.squidoo.com/what (I'm a Lensmaster! What now?).

And hopefully you'll be able to learn as much from me as I have from you. :-D

When I said "And hopefully you'll be able to learn as much from me as I have from you." I meant learn as much about Squidoo as I have learnt about Hubpages from you.

As indeed I have. Your hubs and forum posts have been excellent lessons in how one should approach this wonderful tool we know as Hubpages.

Hello!

I am Squidoo too. Thank you for information. I am glad, I find Hub.

I find them by same question on MyLot.

I think you should use both. With Squidoo promotion is everything. I get lenses on the first page of google within 48 hrs if I do it right!

It sounds too complicated for me... I dunno. I've been thinking about joining Squidoo, but I'm not sure anymore...

I find Hupages is generally quicker and easier, even having learnt Squidoo first. But one thing I really miss is Squidoo's HTML code view for editing content. If there was a HTML interface then Hubpages would be really fast. I can't understand why it's missing.

Whitney, maybe you should read my hub ( http://hubpages.com/_recommended/hub/Squidoo ) on Hubpages vs Squidoo which compares the two side by side and brings you up to speed on how Squidoo works from what you already know as a Hubber. There is no winner or loser. Well there is a winner in fact, it's anyone who decides to use both as tools in your "making money online" toolbox.

I have published on Squidoo and found it hard to navigate and never really got any hits or money for the lenses. The results on Hubpages and my own blog blow Squidoo out of the water. I feel I gave them a fair shot too, I published about 20 lenses. And zip.

Also, I don't know if it's just me or not, but I never see anyone elses pages come up for Squidoo in search engines. I see a lot of hubs but no squidoos. I have never found one of my own lenses in a search engine either.

That's my objective opinion.

the only issue I have with Squidoo is that they appear to have been google slapped. They just don't rank in search engines. Hopefully this will change in time. Hubpages are in the top 10 on google.

I signed up for a Hubpages account and a Squidoo account at the same time three months ago. I think in a fit of information overload I found Hubpages hard to use and concentrated on Squidoo. I was wrong about Hubpages, it's actually easier to use than I first thought.

When I set up my second last page here I decided to do an experiment. I set up a similar review page on Squidoo as well. I submitted them both to Digg and then waited to see what the resulting traffic would be... I have had twice the hits to the Hubpage. I'm surprised to say the least. Pleasantly surprised. I'll be doing more Hubpages now, since it really seems worth the effort.

By the way, you might want to know, earlier on this year Squidoo was Google slapped for having too many spam pages. They cleaned up their act and are starting to get more traffic now than they were. I've noticed the pick up in the last couple of months.

I like both but I see some squidoo hating going on -nothing will work if not used correctly. You can google me under keyword online goldmine I've been on the top for 6 months now. You can find the same lense under a more competitive keyword easily making money online- out of 30 million sites I stay in the top 20. Traffic has been steadily building and my affiliate sales have quadrupled. With that being said I'm now aiming to do the same using hubpages using correct techniques:-) During the squidoo slap page rank went down but my search engine listings did not.

Since my last comment, I have had a complete change-around opinion. Squidoo just takes more getting to used to than HubPages. I find their ever growing and changing tools, make Squidoo more interesting daily... But, HubPages is a wonderful, all the same.

Hubpages is very neatly designed where as squidoo is a bit complicated to use as the way it looks but it has some better tools.........and the best thing above all is that it allows the use of HTML
