Before I start
Let me just give you some background on who I am.
- I am Not a professional.
- I am a 20 year old politics major.
- I have never written a blog or published anything before.
- I have not payed massive amounts of money for advertising
So if I can have this kind of success then any average person can.
My Results
Just so you know what I mean by success I'm going to let you see what my Statistics are so far. This way you can know if this is going to be of any use to you and from what I've seen in the forums here on HubPages I have done quite well in the 6 weeks I've been posting.
Theres several ways to judge your success:
- Page views on your hubs
- Earnings from Google adsense and Affiliate programs
- Hubpages Ranking
- Number of Fans
Of course most people are more concerned with the first two and understandably so....
Some examples of my work
Here are some examples of posts where I have used these tips.
Page Views
Lets start with the first measure of success. Page Views. That is... how many times people have looked at your hubs.
As you can see from the graph below I have 7000 views in my time hubbing so far.
From what I can gather that is an excellent result. And inspired me to share how I achieved it.
Earnings
Well I think that earnings is probably the main reason people will be reading this, so here it is.
I have made a total of $30.98 in my first 6 weeks.
The majority of my revenue has come from Amazon. After my first 6 weeks I have made a total of $20.87.
To break it down a little more I made $10.51 from Amazon in December. Then I made $10.36 from Amazon in the first two weeks of January.
Unfortunately it took almost two weeks for Google to approve my adsense account but I still managed to make $10.11 from their ads. A respectable amount for the kind of traffic I have generated.
You can look at the pictures for more details on my stats for my first six weeks.
How did I do it?
So now that you know the kind of success I've had let me try and tell you how you can achieve the same kinds of results.
- First you must make sure that you write interesting, original, and useful posts. If you don't nobody will want to read them.
- After you publish your post you should get involved in the hubpages community(or whatever website you're publishing on). The easiest way to do this is by participating in the forums and reading other peoples posts. Find people you like and become their fans. This will get your name out in the community in a relatively fast and easy way.
- While you're becoming known in the local community you must begin to reach out to the greater internet community. The best and easiest way to do this is through Backlinking.
Other Great Hubs with tips
Shortly after I created this hub I also created a thread in the hubpages forum. The purpose of the thread was to provide a place for experienced hubbers to post their helpful hubs and also to provide a place for new hubbers to seak help.
I would recomend that you use this thead to your advantage.
Writing good posts
So I bet you're wondering what exactly you should write about...
Well its pretty simple. Whatever you feel passionate about or whatever you have a large amount of knowledge on. That way you are almost guaranteed to create great content every time.
It really is that simple.
The next thing you might wonder about is what first step should I take to get people to visit my post?
- You should make sure and tag your post with relevant tags. For example if you are talking about pizza you might want to use the tags "pizza, tomato, sauce, cheese, food" so when people search for those words your post comes up.
- Make sure you use relevant pictures and videos (like the ones I have included in this post). They will help when people are using picture and video searches. And they have another hidden benefit which is that they will keep people on your page for longer periods of time and that will help increase your rankings on search engines.
ALWAYS try to include as much relevant media in your posts as possible. This will make your site more attractive in every sense of the word and people will be more inclinded to read what you have written.
Try to include videos that are relivent
Backlinking
Ok so if you've followed my advice you should be getting some decent traffic from hubpages (or whatever community you are publishing on) but that is only the half of it.
The real key is to get a signifigant flow of traffic from outside sources. How is this done you ask?
Well its pretty simple. You backlink to other sites... Many other sites. What is backlinking you inquire?
Thats another pretty simple thing to explain. Backlinking is when you place links to your posts onto other sites. For instance when you look at my traffic sources (below) you will see that MikeHuckabee.com is my second (to Hubpages) biggest source of traffic.
I did this by writing posts that relate to Mike Huckabee and then writing comments on Mikehuckabee.com and placing my links in those comments. To do this you may need to learn a very small amount of html or bbml code (things like <a href= ></a> or [url= ][/url])
This is why you see so many sources on my traffic sources graph (below)
Easy places to backlink to
Outside of niche sites like MikeHuckabee.com there are many many places you can backlink to.
Social bookmarking sites are an easy place to start. Places like Digg and Stumbleupon will give you solid backlinks and have the potential to bring massive amounts of traffic to your site if something you post becomes popular.
I use a site called socialposter.com to easily post something to multiple sites. I highly recomend the same site to you. Make sure you backlink somewhere or you will see little to no traffic.
How to use Socialposter.com
So I've gotten a few questions about Socialposter.com. Here's a quick overview of how to use it:
After you've gone to the site and you've filled out all the fields that you want to with information about your hub you should hit the "start posting" button. After that you have to go through and click the post button next to each site you want to post on. Social poster will then take you to that site's posting page (with most of the information filled in) and you will have to go through that sites steps to finish posting (which will take 2 or 3 minutes per site). You have to do this for every site you want to post to. I know it sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't. The site is an easy way of organizing and centralizing your backlinking. Good luck!
Url Trackers
Whenever you are placing your backlinks make sure you use trackers!
Trackers are important because if someone visits your post and then decides that they want to join hubpages too. You then get a percentage of that person's earnings for their entire career on hubpages.
You can find links with trackers at the bottom of each hub. Just click on the "link to this page" button and it will take you to a page with trackers already embedded into your links.
That way you can make others work for you!

Yes you can add trackers to stumble and digg. You just need to insert your tracker into your url. Heres an example:

New here myself! Nice hub...so ignorant computer-internet-wise. How did you get your "go now" tracker? and you need one of these to have backlinks? Or does everybody use _gonow or what? desertblondie: in order to get a link with a tracker in it you must - 1. goto the site you want to link to.
2. click on the button at the very bottom of the page that says "link to this page"
3. copy the link link that appears in the "URL" box. (the tracker hubpages give you will just be a bunch of letters and numbers)
If you want a custom tracker like my _GoNow one then you simply click on the "My Account" button at the top of every page. Then click on the "URL Trackers" link on the right side of the screen. Then, finally, click on the "Create A New Tracker" button on that page.
To answer your other question... No, you dont need a tracker in order to backlink. All trackers do is well... track people who visit hubpages through your links that have trackers. That way if someone decides to sign up for hubpages after visiting your page, you get credit for it (and a percentage of money that they make on hubpages). If you don't have a tracker in your link then you don't get credit for the people who sign up after visiting your page (people will still come look at your page but if they sign up then you get no credit).

These are all great ideas for making money online I just posted a new hub explaining how to make a ton of easy cash on the internet using linkbid script.
just be conscious of how you are holding yourself and try to make yourself a bit tall and a bit wider. Allow your legs to stretch in front of you a little. Watch other confident people and see how they hold themselves and subtly copy it. Remember to be subtle and not go too far!
